As someone who is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, I wanted to point out a few errors in your post. 1. Nurse Anesthesiology can be extremely flexible. I personally work 4 days a week with a lot of vacation time built into my schedule. I have friends that work schedules that are one week on and then one week off. However, I also know people that take jobs that are 24/7. It all depends on what you want to do. 2. Anesthesia is not all in the operating rooms, you can work in a hospital, at a surgery center, office based anesthesia, GI clinic, dentist office, providing pain management, etc. If you choose to work in a more rural setting CRNA’s are also utilized as an Intensivists (not required but there is a fellowship for that). You can also sub-specialize as a CRNA (peds, OB, trauma, hearts, pain management, neuro, etc). I primarily work at a pediatric hospital caring for neonates to adults. I do hearts, neuro, ortho, general surgery, urology, ent, trauma, liver transplants, optho, heme/oncology, dental, radiology, regional anesthesia/pain management and trauma. I also work at an adult level one trauma center. You can also own your own anesthesia group and run a hospital’s or ASC’s anesthesia department. Yes you are doing anesthesia but it can vary a significant amount. I’m glad you found something you liked. Nurse Anesthesia school is extremely daunting, both educationally and financially. There are no part time or online versions so you have to be willing to give up 2.5-3 years of your life and income as an RN to become a CRNA. I worked an average of 60-80 hours a week in the OR plus having a classes every day and lots of projects and papers to write. All of which I would gladly do over again. This job is not for everyone.

I researched this because I was always told north Texas holds some of the fastest growing city’s in the US being I was born and raised here I could see what they were talking i my self looked into it and found that the information I was told was true I then began on looking at multiple job fields and multiple salaries and Texas,California,New York and Colorado had some of the highest averages across the US look into your state and your job of choice for your salary it varies tremendously good luck fam.

Thank you for this. Going into nursing CRNA was my end goal. I'm originally from jamaica, so the option to go into ICU as a new grad wasnt there. Immigrating to the US, I continued my med surge experience, while searching for ICU jobs. Then I started traveling (I got bored being at one hospital for so long), all with the plan of travelling for a year then settling into ICU to lay the foundation for CRNA. But something life changing happened I guess, everyone kept telling me how great of a clinician/NP i would be and i should consider pursuing that degree. After much research etc, i enrolled july '18, and presently i'm in my 1st semester of NP school. Up until seeing this video, I was still planning to do CRNA after completing my degree, not so much because I wanted to, but because I felt I 'owed' it to myself (as it was my original goal). But as you say, we change. I guess I didnt want to accept that, maybe CRNA wasnt for me anymore.

So I went back to the hospital (mistake). Needless to say it just isn’t for my personality and my heart is in public health and primary care so I’m going back to that job and can’t wait! I wish they had a CRNA program here in germany, im currently in a CCRN/CRNA program, its only two years, not a masters program and you want to know how much i earn more? 70 dollars a month, its a joke. 35-40000 a year as a RN is a joke. Professional Nursing in Germany is dead. You all should be glad to have such a good healthcare system in the US in germany its all about how the system is trying to save money by gutting out Healthcare providers. 1:20 patient ratios on med/surg at night 1:50, no CNAs on Intensive care units so RNs do Meds assist with diagnostics, do bed side nursing, we even clean the rooms after 18 pm because thats when no more cleaning persons are on duty. Its f*** up.

@traceygarner77646 жыл бұрын
DNP is Doctor of Nursing Practice (basically a title) and FNP is Family Nurse Practitioner. Yes, any NP can open up their own practice. The State you live in will determine your autonomy. You can be a DNP FNP... Doctor of Nursing Practice Family Nurse Practitioner. I hope this helps.

I'm wondering if you've met or know any people that graduated with a BScN from a foreign country and managed to further their education towards becoming a CRNA or an NP in the United States. My situation is a bit particular, since I will be graduating with a degree from a nursing school in France. I'm born and originally from California so none of the visa requirements, of course, will affect me. A lot of the information online is a bit obscure and vague. My goal is to eventually become a CRNA in the United States. I have no desire to return to the US, but CRNAs in France (which aren't called CRNAs but are called IADE: Infirmier Anesthésiste Diplômer de l'État) are underpaid and have less autonomy than those in the US. Plus, I want to join the US military as a CRNA, and my ship has sailed for doing so in the French military since I'm now too old by their standards. Anyways, if you have even the slightest information on the aforementioned that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the cool video, by the way, and congratulations on your fine work.

most schools require experience, but there are some programs that participate in "BSN to DNP" meaning students who have recently graduated from nursing school with their BSN (and subsequently passed NCLEX) can apply to the DNP program and get accepted without having been employed as a nurse. some students who take this route prefer to work part-time in addition to taking classes in order to maintain their clinical skills. i'm not sure about all schools, but these students applied to the school's DNP program from which they received their BSN.

@fatimafrancesa7 жыл бұрын
Jordan Semmel you would still go to medical school after an undergrad degree and complete a residency in surgery
@jordans19177 жыл бұрын
Fatima Francesa so that route is plausible? It can happen?
@caramia44777 жыл бұрын
sure can! you just have to complete the requirements for med school. youll need to take their prerequisite classes like chem and physics and what not. im thinking about the same route (not surgeon though lol)

You can get into med school with any undergraduate degree. You just have to had completed all the prerequisite classes

Yes if you are FOR SURE you want to do med school, then go for a science degree so you can cover all pre-reqs faster. But if you want OPTIONS, then do a nursing degree just in case you change your mind about med school. That’s what I did, changed from pre-med to nursing and it was the best option for me because now I have this world of opportunities after my BSN. A lot of my science major cohorts are stuck with a science degree after they decided not to pursue med school. which is not very flexible job wise. So choose your major wisely! Hope that is helpful.

If you want action and high pay rate go for CRNA 👍
@anamae95026 жыл бұрын
Yeah being a CRNA pays good but it's boring. I personally cannot stand the repetition of the process patient after patient..in the OR.
@dough30876 жыл бұрын
Ana Mae anesthesia is also utilized outside of the OR although that's their primary location. They're utilized heavily in OB, IR, trauma teams, GI, etc. There are even flight teams (think Marylands shock trauma center) that put an MD and CRNA on their helicopters. Even being in the OR alone will offer a variety of cases. Deterring other's from pursuing this for being "boring" isn't a well founded argument. For those who have a strong interest in the hard sciences (chem, physics, bio) and procedures, CRNA will be a very interesting and fulfilling career. I have yet to meet a CRNA who doesn't love what they do but I'm sure they are out there.

It is very fair to say it can be considered boring to someone. It can be repetitive in some fashions. Even in OB. And yes there are different types of OR cases, but in big hospitals most OR staff is placed in the same general type of cases. Based on their strong points. Of course you get different cases. But most don’t go from General surgery, to peds, to Cardiac, to ortho all the time. In small hospitals it’s a little more variety at Times. But you still get the same types of cases. And the process is repetitive. I’ve worked in surgical services for over 5 years. Do I find it boring, at times, yes. Overall No. But her point is a valid point.

Are you suggesting an NP in an academic center is any different? Think ED where they are given lacs, PNAs, kidney stones, etc. Hell, in an academic center, you have case specialized MDAs as well. My point is that it's already a daunting task for someone to commit to the CRNA route but deterring someone by suggesting "it's boring" is, again, not fair just as calling NP boring for its theory heavy education or the mild cases taken in academic centers is not fair. In rural America where you take whatever comes your way, who covers nearly all the anesthesia? The CRNA.

Doug Hardekopf you missed the whole point. That is her opinion. It’s a valid one. Period. Yours is not any more or less valid. So you can’t scold someone for giving their opinion. Period.
