Record fact for you: First US and Canadian copies were full of tape flaws like dropouts, and had a bad 'tape drag' at the lyric "all of those vows we m-a--de". Every version since had an oldschool 'copy/paste' from the "all those vows you made" part to patch it back up. So originally the lyrics had that slight difference, but it got changed to repeat because of bad tape.

Fats Domino was played a lot on the radio back in the day and was loved worldwide. Van Morrison payed tribute to him with the song "Domino". There's a place in Van's song where he says "listen to the band"! And those horns come in just like in Fats song.. So yes he was an icon and a major influencer. Thanks for keeping this alive Jamel!

A true legend. It makes me angry that he never got as much recognition as Elvis Presley but the fact is back then when he started music was segregated and it was only thanks to Elvis that African American music got finally transmitted to a white audience.
@otisdylan95323 жыл бұрын
Fats was one of the very best of the '50s rockers, with lots of good songs, most about 2 minutes long. He's probably best known for his cover of "Blueberry Hill", but he also had many fine originals: "Blue Monday", "I'm in Love Again", and "I'm Walkin'" are among the best. I hope you'll revisit Fats. If you want to use a live video from his peak period, it will probably be in black & white, but of course, studio versions are fine too.

Fats was a bit before my time, but I grew up listening to him because 1. I’m from New Orleans, and 2. My dad was a huge fan. He was a much bigger contributor to early rock and roll than he gets credit for. Fats is one of the greatest! Had his first hit record in 1949 and just kept on rockin. In an interview in the late fifties, when beeing asked about the new rock n roll craze, he said something like; "it is also called rythm n blues and i´ve been doing it for 15 years..." My dads Fats Domino ep:s were some of my first real music experiences and they made an impact to say the least. Regarding original versions and covers, here are a couple of tips: "I hear you knockin" - Original version - 1961 - Fats Domino kzbin.info/www/bejne/npK4q3l_qp2Zd5Y "I hear you knockin" - Cover version - 1972(?) - Dave Edmunds kzbin.info/www/bejne/nn7NqJVnaLl5edE "I´m Ready" - Original version - 1959 - Fats Domino kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmPIi414gtlkebM "I´m Ready" - Cover version Live - 2006(?) - Albert Lee & The Refreshments

My wife was in New Orleans after Katrina, taking a cab to the airport. She asked me the taxi driver how things were going, and he said, "We almost lost Fats. He's still not doing so great, and he won't take his medicine " She said to tell him she said he needs to take his medicine. The taxi guy dialed a number in his phone, and said, "Tell him yourself." So she takes the phone, and sure enough, Fats answers. She tell him about the taxi man saying he wouldn't take his meds, and how he needs to take his meds. There was a pause, and Fats says, "Who is this?" She goes on explaining how she's riding a taxi to the airport, and asks how things are going since Katrina in the city, and the driver tells her how he isn't taking his medicine so she's calling to tell him to be a good boy and take his meds. There is another pause, and Fats says, "You talk too much."
