A few things not really addressed: First off, I'm really excited about the SINGLE BOARD VTX! I've been wanting that for quite some time and here it is - much smaller, one board instead of two, and how much will that weigh as a naked single board? 4 - 7 grams, I'd guess! GREAT IMPROVEMENT! And, it has a DVR built in! lol So, this single board gives us what the DJI Air Unit - the BIG one does, but it's much lighter and smaller, still has a DVR, does 1080P, which the Caddx Vista didn't have, of course, and it will mount 25mm x 25mm for whoops! 25.5mm? I don't know. Secondly, there's more to the difference between HDZero and DJI that the fixed latency, obviously, but the BIGGEST difference to me is the PENETRATION! DJI's penetration is fantastic! Behind buildings, a floor or two down in a concrete parking garage - Sure! No Problem! HDZero - NO WAY - BIG Gigantic Problem! HDZero has HORRENDOUS penetration! I think it's mostly why reviewers seem to give us simple open field flying reviews! Which, I do not do because it's too damn boring! UGH! But, if you see a video, like JB's parking garage test, where he does test penetration of all systems, HDZero is even worse than plain ole analog! It's really quite bad or actually we might just call it non existent! or CRAP! :0 Your right about pre-ordering! Not a good idea, and not available in any other field of electronics! I think it's a bad way to go because YOU are the Beta tester for the manufacturer, continually flashing and re-flashing firmware to get rid of this bug and that bug, over and over again, where THEY SHOULD BE BETA TESTING THEIR OWN GEAR! Lazy, cheap, %UCKS! lol ;(

I don't like speculation videos that much, but yours is really good and I learned something today ;) I also get asked by new FPVers if they should buy DJI v2 now if v3 is on the horizon and that was even before this new fatshark sys. I totally agree that DJI v2 goggles will still be a very good choice for a long time until the new systems are fully firmware patched up. The only downside from DJI currently would be the Limitation on OSD - but even this is no real problem. Volts and amps, maybe some gps infos is all I need... Liked how you described the nostalgia involved in flying your analog wing ;) greets, Mario

I don't own a DJI system - and have never tried one. I am sure that the experience is AMAZING - and yet, I've been very skeptical of buying their goggles/FPV systems. Why? Its not so much the "latency" issues that pilots describe, its more the control that the company has over its users - from firmware updates that prevent you from rolling back the current firmware to NO BACKWARDS compatibility at each iteration of development. This is a shitty business model and I am hoping that Fatshark can help make this technology open and competitive for the sake of this hobby......

I recently purchased a Babyhawk 2 HD and it came with (what I now know is) a WalkSnail antenna. As for Caddx designing this, no. No chance they would arrive at the exact same icons and menu item names. Channels 1,2,3 & 8 in 50mbps mode? (50mbps & 25mbps?) And focus mode? The "DJI V3" was codenamed "Avatar" and the DVR records files named "Avata". And on and on. These are not things you arrive at by designing a new system. This is the same system. China doesn't respect US patents for sure. Don't know if China has patents either. Often factory workers sneak designs and or hardware across the street and sell them to another factory that makes a slightly different cloned version of products which is one reason tech products evolve and innovate rapidly when produced there. Gregg is not a good liar and I get the feeling this move could backfire on Fat Shark when the truth comes out. Unless the truth is that all these true fpv first companies worked together in order to get around DJI and have the freedom to continue improving what DJI just doesn't care about. It eerily has some of the same early bugs of the DJI FPV V1 goggles. More resolution, oled displays, but can only display 90fps. As I was watching Bardwell's video, I got an email from Flywoo advertising a new system and charging $1 for updates on it's development! I've been using the V1 goggles as my daily for a couple years. Even for analogue thanks to the adapter from BDI and a TBS Fusion. I never pre-order anything and rarely am a beta tester or early adopter. I waited until the V1 goggles came out with 50mb mode and were stable. So hopefully my V1 keep working until this chaos and smoke & mirrors is sorted out to where there is an affordable replacement that hopefully allows analogue input also. Whoops are still enjoyed best via analogue and I have an old analogue set of goggles that just hurt my head and eyes. I'd have a hard time buying a digital and an analogue set of goggles. Thanks for the video Bruce.

I doubt Caddx would be able to reverse engineer the DJI FPV system which would include designing their own video processing asic. And even if they were they such a system would certainly have at least small differences in features and performance which judging from Barwells video it doesn't have. To me the most plausible explanation is simply that the tech in the Fatshark system comes straight from DJI and both made that deal because both do benefit from it. That is fine for me, the only thing I don't like about it is being lied to.
@housinit2 жыл бұрын
Great take Bruce! Every point you have made is exactly all the thoughts I have had on this new release. It really does seem like a bunch of smoke and mirrors to cover for DJI technology. It could be that Caddx was able to reverse engineer DJI tech. But I tend to think that Caddx wouldn't want to try to go up against DJI and have to deal with possible legal battles. Don't know how that all works in China, do they even have patent laws there? It would be really interesting to see the PCB and the chipsets inside the new goggles. Its all definitely interesting.

I fly whoops, I also have a 3 inch and a 4 inch HD quad, It was all LOS at first. The main reasons I bought into the DJI goggles over Fat Shark were 1. I had no FPV hardware previous to the purchase and the buy in cost was the same. 2. DJI was readily available on the used market since everyone was trying to get into the 2.0 goggles. 3. Both analogue and digital are supported. With 2 bits of extra hardware I can have both signals on one set of goggles. At this point if I want to upgrade I need to be able to incorporate both ecosystems in a new headset and replace what I currently have. I understand that digital is the future, but at there are going to be times where it isn't feasible to run one system over the other, and having both options is great. The upgraded screen is fantastic, same with the new features and being able to have the full BF OSD. The issue I have with Dominator HD Is there no option for analogue, and for the company to assume im gonna have another pair of goggles is ridiculous. Ill be sticking with DJI for now.

I also doubt that Caddx would do anything to really piss off DJI either given their relationship. I agree with you that DJI doesn't seem all that committed to FPV. Things are changing! With Analog, everyone's stuff was pretty much compatible so you could use old goggles with new cameras and VTX's or buy new goggles and use them with your old quads. Digital systems are not that way at all. I hope HDZero survives but they are the small fish with minimal resources and there are not many of their units out in the field and you can't even buy one today.

What would I want if I wanted to break into digital fpv? I would want DJI stripped down and upgraded. I’d remove the rx, ditch the registration stuff, add oled and step it up to 1080p. What concerns me, latency. In JB’s vid, flying 720p I noticed the latency change from 21ms all the way up to 74. Don’t know about others experiences, but I can’t be the only one, I hate flying my DJI goggles at anything over 40. As that’s where 1080p starts I question how flyable it is? If they can fix the latency it would be a huge improvement over DJI! Let’s not forget Carl has already expressed his will be a true progressive scan!

if Fatshark or Caddx remove all the registration crap from the DJI system, i will consider it. the way they're building it in is annoying, in terms of digital vs analog though, as long as the Dominator HDs have a HDMI or DisplayPort input, thats as much as i can reasonably expect.

I don’t get this POV, if you have a problem with your Fatshark googles and need to get them repaired under warranty, you need to have either, registered them the old way when you bough them, or in most cases, produce the invoice from when you bought them, in order to get Fatshark to fix them, same for other equipment, when I had a problem with a crossfire receiver, TBS wouldn’t do anything until I produced the invoice from the purchase. With DJI you don’t have to do this, when my Air Unit packed up, I opened a ticket, gave them the serial number and within a few days had a courier at my door picking it up to take it to DJI repair centre in The Netherlands, within a week I had a replacement back, no faffing about for the simple task of activating the unit online which took all of 15 seconds. Once activated you never need to plug it back in unless you want to update it.

Of course, DJI could fly at all levels and in all corners of each level - CRYSTAL CLEAR! No distortion at all! It's kinda amazing - I was totally surprised! WwwHhhhhaAaaaaTttttt! That's the biggest difference in DJI and HDZero - try to find a video - most are flown in open fields, and there's no issues flying any system there! But, try to find a video where HDZero has to fly around huge groves of trees and bushes, around a building, wall, through an office building, etc. to see just how terrible it's penetration actually is! It's very bad. That's one of the AWESOME things about DJI - All of a sudden from the first moment you are flying it, new places you didn't dare fly before with analog, are open to you to explore and flying around, in behind, etc. that opens up so much new exploration, both inside and outside in all kinds of places! Now, remember, HDZero isn't as good at that as analog is - so you are even more limited by it's lack of ability to go anywhere behind anything or just around a crop of bushes or trees, or a small building! It's area of clear flying, ERRRR....not a white out, is very limited. Just imagine flying in a 3rd floor in a parking garage and having no degradation in crystal clear HD image quality! It's MIND BLOWING! LOL :0 You can pretty much go anywhere! ;)

@@KOrnhOliO1 Yea DJI costs too much and I don't fly in parking garages so none of what you say is worth a dam to me. Sorry you wasted your life typing all of this crap

@@pbshooter100 Senor Crap man: Geez, yaaaahh think maybe FPV penetration is good for more than just in parking garages?! Yaright!! And, since an analog VTX and camera aren't needed when you have a Caddx Vista, you can subtract the cost for those from the price of a Vista, making it a lot less money than you might think for digital! Plus, I currently have purchased brand new, 3 DJI BNF quads that each cost less than $177.50...the most expensive quad of the three! So, maybe look around a bit and grab the crap out of good deals some dealers occasionally run the crap out of! OHHHHH, and DJI's great penetration is great for flying behind a crap load of trees, around a crap pack of bushes, behind a crap man full of buildings, a crappy wall, A bunch of crap filled cars, buses, airplanes, taxis, and rockets! Also, craptastic houses, and a stable full of crap dropping horses! All sorts of places you'd never dream of flying yer 2008 tech analog drones! So, no crappy reason needed to reply to this as it would just require you to waste your super important life typing on crappy keys of a keyboard, soooo why the crap bother?! 😝💩💩💩🤬

dominators/avatars are just dji inside. hdzero will march on due to its more open nature, better latency, and compatibility with existing goggles

sorry, but why would the US military, or any other government agency, be interested AT ALL in a hobby grade product like the walksnail/dominator? 🤣 they certainly can afford more expensive toys than you or me. do you know how much a Black Hornet Nano drone costs?!? 😅as for the reluctance of parts of the FPV community to DJI in general, if FatShark/WalkSnail were really trying to mask the DJI origins of the product, why not just change the user interface? come on, please...

I think it’s just DJI skirting upcoming laws by having a reputable American company continue on without the stigma

DJI? No, DJI was only the first customer for this developed system and had it exclusive for 2 years. All other speculations does make no sense any more now from all we saw the last years.

So DJI outsourced a video link system that's based on DJI's previous technology? To a company that couldn't even make an analog camera without dust on its sensor? Good one! 😂
@rolliseventeen2 жыл бұрын
@@FilipRadelic who can say for sure it was a DJI system? we can only see the labeled brand on it. DJI is the market leader and the brand has also top marketing to sell products. that means not, that they developed all the technical stuff they sell! contract development is usual in IT business and thats what DJI is in.
@FilipRadelic2 жыл бұрын
@@rolliseventeen there's infinite amounts of evidence in the firmware. And the whole system uses exact same hardware components you can see in Mavic and other DJI products.

I'm irritated at the fact this mostly open hobby is starting to become divided in closed ecosystems. Say goodbye to the days your vyx didn't matter what did matter was your goggles and how well they worked for you. Now you have to choose a system and stick with them or spend way to much money to have them all and carry 7 different goggles for 7 different systems. We want options but not at the expense of our fleets. Hdzero, I'm rooting heavily for you to shine on top, the one to rule them all because you'll be the one who willeet the majority of our needs. You're open to us and hold no secrets.
