I believe that the technique adopted is Priming which made Simon believe in a memory of selecting a BMX when he never really did. No magic here, but how many celebrities were also involved who failed to be influenced?

I remember seeing more of this show before, and he also mentioned how he did it (although I'm completely sure that even if I followed the steps, it wouldn't work for me..). There are lots of red circles in the room (red bike, circles are like wheels), the film reels are like moving wheels, there is another object that has two circles attached with a chain/ribbon-like thing. And especially when he taps that guy, he's saying things like "buy gifts" (bike gifts), "handle, bar none" (handlebar), recycle (cycle), "by creating" (bike creating), "pumped up" (like tires), and "like a BM, or an X-box" (BMX), and maybe some things I missed. Again, if I were to do this, I'd totally fail to get someone to completely change their memory of what they wanted, so there's something else going on, but based on the full show, those are at least shown as the mental persuasion methods.
