Great Review! I've been running Shark Byte/HDzero since they released, and think everyone should try it! Freestyle pilots may prefer DJI, but anyone racing or anyone into long range will like HDZero better.

With avatar possibly competing with Dji in video quality, will hdzero catch up? I'm rooting for it because it's the cheapest upgrade. But comparing dvr of all HD, it's also the bottom. I'm upgrading to HD from analogue but I can wait but more if there's possibility of a cheaper and par quality to Dji V2.

Ok so this according to HDZero's website this receiver has true 720 DVR which is nice in comparison to even the 960x720 we get as a resolution in the Fat Shark HD2.0 goggles. The thing Im confused about with the new HDZero goggles is that the screen is 1080p but all their HDZero cameras shoot in 720P. So as far as DVR are you getting the same recording resolution in the module as in the new goggles? And is this new resolution maybe a hint that they have new 1080p cameras coming soon for their system? Really trying to figure out if i should wait for the new HDZero goggles and add the analog receiver add on or buy the HD2.0's goggles with this digital add on. When switching to HD on tiny whoops especially the HDR is almost your only take away from the experience so I feel like its a pretty important aspect in my debate of which route to go. Thanks!

Excellent video and description. My main decision point is I have the problem of seeing the screens. With my DJI. I have prescription lenses, with Skyzone diopter range adjustment +6 to -6 just gets me into the clear vision. Fatshark being +2 to -6 is no good so a HD Zero google may still be no good to me. The Skyzone with this VRX covers all bases for me unless you know the range of the googles ??
@KOrnhOliO12 жыл бұрын
Dude, I like Bardwell, have a glasses prescription that is out of the range of most diopters. Especially the preset ones offer by some companies! I think you need to buy the lenses exactly for your glasses prescription. I bought mine from a German company named RHO, and let me tell you ... The long standing comment about German quality craftsmanship is TRUE! My diopters literally gave me absolutely perfect, crystal clear, spectacular vision with my DJI V2 goggles! I highly recommend buying the RHO optics as I feel like I am looking through a $3000 lens for my DSLR camera! Unbelievably superb! 😎🤘
@robertogden52392 жыл бұрын
The problem is if you have a pair of goggles with focus adjustment you cannot buy perscription lens to fit therfore as the HD Zero googles have focus adjustment they no good to me.

@ATX Airborne what is the practical run time of the old vs the new? I feel like the Sharkbyte module tends to drain my battery fairly fast. Do we see 30 perhaps 60 mins of less runtime on the same battery?
@ATXAirborne2 жыл бұрын
This won't be exact, but here are some calculations. Let's say you have a 4S 1500 mAh battery. As a rule of thumb, you should only discharge 80% of the capacity of a lipo, so call it 1200 mAh of usable capacity. For the Sharkbyte VRX, the current draw at 16V (roughly 4S) for the VRX + my goggles is 0.68, or 680 mA. If you divide 1200 / 680 and multiply by 60 to get minutes, you get an approximate runtime of 105 minutes. For the HDZero VRX, the current draw at 16V for the VRX + goggles is 0.935, or 935 mA. If you divide 1200 / 935 and multiply by 60, you get an approximate runtime of 77 minutes. Of course, the absolute numbers go up if you use a larger pack, either in cell count or mAh. The power draw of the VRX is impressively flat across its entire voltage range, meaning that it consumes a similar wattage at 2S and 6S. So you can compare two different batteries easily by multiplying voltage by capacity to get a watt-hour number for how "big" the battery is for this purpose.

From what I can see of the design, the rail mounts are different sizes. However, it should be possible to replace the rail mount on the antennas with a newly printed one for the goggles.

You're flying 16:9 right? Do your skyzone goggles support 4:3 on hdmi in?
@ATXAirborne2 жыл бұрын
In these clips I’m flying 16:9 because that’s what the Digisight 3 supports. But yes, the VRX supports 4:3 and the Sky04X supports 4:3 on the HDMI in, so with a camera like the HDZero Micro V2 you could use 4:3.

Yes, HDZero has improved significantly since it was first announced. It's actually quite impressive how much better it's gotten. Is it the best, no, but it is a strong option.... But, that does mean I want a hokey looking, tack on, Jerry rigged, box strapped on to the front of my goggles! Damn, that looks hideous and funky! No way I'm investing in something so damn tacky looking! 🤣 Did they have RONCO, KENNER, or FISHER PRICE make it for them? ;) Sorry, but if you want me to buy into the HDZero system, you're gonna have to come out with some better solution than this Jerry rigged cracker box! Sheesh! I'll wait and see how the HDZero goggles turn out ... and, with the new Fatshark and V3 DJI goggle system coming out soon, IMO it's best to wait until all three are out, fully reviewed by our best in the hobby, and then make an informed decision about what system is right for you. Now is the worst time possible to invest in this, or anything else. I'm waiting until I know what ALL is available. Remember, HDZero may be a good option, but getting over the HORRENDOUSLY BAD penetration it gives us, for flying behind objects, around thick groups of trees and bushes, and behind anything solid, is gonna take a lot to convince me they're the way to go. To see what I mean, go watch Joshua Bardwell's video in the parking garage, where he tests DJI, HDZero, and analog. It's impressive and extremely well done! 👍

I feel like this is too expensive compared to Fatshark HD with 1080p and high end optics. The resale value of this bulky setup would tank the resale value when you enter the second hand market. The Fatshark Hd alternative with state of the art optics which wont be surpassed for several years so even the admission cost is high, the cost of ownership wont be after you sold it after some time. I wish HdZero would do a crowdfund to get the funds needed to make a new SoC on a smaller node to shrink the hole VTX.
@ATXAirborne2 жыл бұрын
The Fatshark system is pretty expensive as well at $600 for the goggles and $160 for a VTX+camera. But to me, the bigger issue is that we don’t know anything about that system yet. It sounds like it could be exciting, but so far all they have shown is a buggy system. At Rampage, DVR didn’t work at all, HDMI output was buggy, 1080p mode didn’t work, and the OSD didn’t work. If they can fix all of these bugs and if the system performs well, it will be worth a look. But I’m not sure how long it will take to do that, and I don’t see a June release being likely. By contrast, HDZero is available now and you can fly with it now. So I think that’s how you have to approach the decision. If you’re looking at Fatshark’s system, you’re buying on the hope that it will improve over time.
