Problem as I see is Fatsharks other game Verminetide 2 is has matured. So going from that to Darktide feels very thin. I get it, they already pushed back the release date and likely had to get something out the door to keep the lights on. But, I got it on gamepass so I didn't pour a lot of cash into it. A year down the line and the game is honestly in a much better state with a number of improvements on the way. All the glaring issues aside, the game honestly does have some great combat. Also the update that changed grenades was a god send. Ogryn can carry 2 lunch boxes, or one huge fragmentation bomb, OR 4 rocks. Rock are sniping tools that 1 shot most things and are effectively endless, you regain them slowly. Taking out a sniper by shattering his skull with a brick the size of his torso makes me hard.

They target specific groups of people, namely gamblers or people with spending addictions and jack up prices for digital bullshit because they know items will be bought. Regardless of price or even chance. Ignoring that it’s just an anti-consumer practice. Paying full price or even near it, only to then be heavily incentivized to pay more for skins is ridiculous. The modern classic Halo Infinite having a 60 dollar price tag for campaign alone, but still requiring plays to pay five bucks for the color red is a great example of that. Remember when ten bucks got you an optional map pack? I certainly do and I remember that being considered mental as well. If only we knew…

Great review! Subbed :) I leveled Zealot to 23 and Ogryn to 30 and I love the game. Its predatory as F but the gameplay is nice. Now if I could just find 6 Ogryn enemies grouped together on Heresy difficulty to tackle simultaneously (they increased it from 4 to make it impossibly difficult so you’d probably buy cosmetics) id be pleased.

Asking Fatshark to finish a game is like asking the wind to go away. Now me, I'm a big fan of the Imperial Guard. I've spent way too much money on lumps of metal, resin, and plastic and I know I'm going to spend significantly more in the future. My insatiable lust for Guardsmen has sold my soul to Chinese recasters and Ebay scalpers. Despite all of this, I still know better than to pay money for Darktide. If I'm patient, I will get it for free someday, just like how I got Vermintide 2.

My brother, this review was the deranged howlings I had running through my skull ever since I was playing the beta. Unlike a beta, I saw it for what it was, and correctly determined this game will actually be finished this time 2024. Got my refund, and used it to play DRG to bide my time until Tencent gets bored with their ponzi scheme, and simply release all the pay-to-wear cosmetics for free. In 2024 it will be a complete game that I will play.

I'm not condoning the premium cosmetic shop at all , but to your point about the cosmetics being cut content, Totalbiscuit (RIP) interviewed a game dev about this exact topic and this was what he found out. Skins/cosmetics on launch day help keep their artists at work. This is because the art for the game is generally completed midway during a games development process, and in order to keep to keep the artists at work and allow them some creative freedom, the artists then start working on cosmetics such as skins. I cannot find the link where it is mentioned but I felt it was an important point to mention.

but you dont have to monetize and sell it for absurd prices? you can have them adding to cosmetics to in-game challenges or having them sold for non-premium currency, thus extending the life of the game. this isnt some far-fetched, wild, idea. MOST games around a bit over decade n a half ago did this in some capacity. now, instead of extending the life of the game, they ask you to open your wallet more.

Couldn't agree more, I absolutely love Vermintide 2 and was hoping for that but space and while the game mostly delivers on that it is lacking quite a bit. Only 4 classes a pretty homogeneous level pool (although that might be the setting) no crafting, but hey we got the fully stacked cash shop. I see the potential of what this game will become over the next months and years but as of right now not great

oh my god did Hedge really say that crafting doesn't fit the theme of the setting?! Wait wait wait. So it fits the theme of the setting for a fresh-faced convict recruit with deep pockets to be able to drip more than a dark eldar before ever setting foot on Atoma Prime, but that same convict isn't trusted enough to take anything more than a shovel on the drop ship? What the fuck is the theme of this setting???
