I always liked Fixer. His no-nonsense, by-the-books attitude makes him a great trope character to round out of the cast. even if he isn't as edgy as Sev or as funny as Scorch i think he brings the whole team together in a way that a more colorful character couldn't. the most emotion he ever shows is when he's sneering at the "filthy bug vermin". I especially like that he always uses the numbers to address his team instead of using the nicknames. You're not "Boss" to him, you're 38. Its a nice touch.
@PANCAKEMINEZZ3 жыл бұрын
The game would not be the same with any of Delta removed or changed. While Scorch was always and always will be my favorite, Fixer helps balance everything out perfectly. While Sev and Scorch are the jokers of the team (the Haggard and Sweetwater equivalence from Bad Company 2), Fixer and Boss are the serious ones (the Marlow and Sarge). Neither are devoid of personality but just keep everything in check. If the team was made up of all Scorch and Sev types of characters, the game wouldn't be nearly as good, and same vice versa.

An AngrryWalrus Don't be so quick to deride it. Many sci-fi and fantasy series go out of their way to do this, from Star Wars' Aurebesh alphabet and Star Trek Klingonese to the tongues of Elves, Dwarves and Orcs in LotR. It helps add an extra layer of authenticity to the setting, as people subconsciously recognize the structure and cadence of a proper language, even if they can't understand what's being said. i was always so scared during the section where you are by yourself with the super battle droids
@petervitkov3612 жыл бұрын
To be fair, I wish it did more with that. You have the first level in the ship, which is some horror movie stuff, but all you fight are scavenger droids. Then the setting becomes brighter and you fight Trandoshans in a more of an action movie style. There's the occasional horror moment or two (like when you jump down the hatch and find yourself in a dump site surrounded by the bodies of clone troopers), but the overall vibe is an action one, so the first level teases you with some horror and then it never delivers more than that. I wish there was more of that tone that we got from the first Assault Ship level, but amplified. Maybe a jumpscare, some stuff that really makes your hair stand up.

I think the important thing about these older Star Wars games is that, although they weren't always incredibly original (haha Galactic Battlegrounds), they were all very well executed. They were all fun, and ultimately most of them could easily stand up on their own. They had character. Can't say the same about everything nowadays

The remake more like Rainbow Six and a 2nd game, Imperial Commando, like SWAT 4, centered around hunting down political disidents, rebel scum and Jedi filth. Also, they should add the ARC troopers, for both, and there must be a mission creator. It's like they don't want our money.

I was so pissed that it ended the way it did and I'm guilty pissed that force unleashed got a sequel but republic commando got some BS modle games. Its funny how Halo 5 really tried to do what republic commando did but the friendly AI was was too stupid to take orders and the squad commands were just the equivalent of pointing and preying to god they knew what go here ment. Unlike republic commando the squad AI wouldnt hold positions and who always follow and were practically useless on heroic or legendary. This is a game I come back to every 2-5 years. I don't know why it is so replayable. Probably because of the characters, movie-eque presentation with 0 pre-rendered cutscenes. Probably because it's sometimes scary, leaves you alone and then gives you back "your borthers", which feels so good. I wish they made this, as much as possible with the same formula, again - maybe continuing on giving us the fate of the brothers.

The squad really made this game amazing for me. I think the cast of characters in a game are extremely important, as they are who you spend all your time with. In this game, they really managed to give all the squad mates likable personalities. When they are giving each other a bit of banter it seems genuine, like they are really squad mates that have grown close over time, even if that just means they crack jokes at each other's expense.

Technically a Star Destroyer is a class of ship, that includes many different ships, including the Republic's Venators. However this ship is an Acclamator class assault ship, which I think is too small to be classified as a star destroyer.

For whatever bad bugs this game may hunt it is still one of the best games for me and definitely the best shooter game where the NPC squad mates are actually useful. No other game came any closer to this. Of course I played swat 4 and rainbow six, but in this I have never felt like they are disposable. I could rely on my squad mates to resolve the situation or to secure the area and then revive me. No other game did really offered me this option.

Fun fact, this game was released alongside a series of novels by author Karen Traviss. The first book "Star Wars Republic Commando: Hard Contact" is a really solid standalone Star Wars book, but the rest of the series spends a lot of time trying to preach at you that the Mandolorians, the warrior culture that trained the Commandos, as just the best about everything, and the Jedi suck ass, which is a pretty weird take for a Star Wars novel, presumably marketing towards people who think Space Wizards are fun. The later books have their strengths- their depiction of Order 66 is just as brutal as you might expect, and has a few good emotional gutt punches in store, but they're held back by an author who clearly follows the Tom Clancy school of putting their opinions on the page.
