Many people out there have been asking about The Legend of Fatslob and here it is! He's still playing AoE2 folks and while his reputation gives people a strong idea of what he will go for, he is just as active as ever.
This game was casted with Capture Age, check out their website at captureage.com/.

The guy knows what his weakness is. He can't keep up with the task saturation. So ... he found a map and settings where he can fall behind and not get punished for it. Then when everything evens out late game he can hold his own and take advantage. He plays to his strengths, and that's admirable. Thanks for casting this man.

fatslob gg's if you don't attack him at all. So this wouldn't likely work. He's extremely passive until he knows he has an advantage and then he utilizes that to push and end. His winrate above 50 minutes is like 70%+. His grand strategy is to stall out and punish your mistakes massively. You can see this here. He recognized that red dumped gold into 70 rams and then took that gold advantage he had knowing he had more gold saved up and potential gold unmined and then struck while the iron was hot and punished red deeply for his unwise decision of spamming rams into onagers with walls in a choke.

I say this every time people hate on Fatslob. The guys not great at the game. You can see it in how he micro's his onagers in this game and kills off more of his own units than the enemy does. But this game isn't about metas. It's about grand strategy in real time. Sometimes its not fun to play meta and rush castle and throw out longbows or something like that. It's also not fun to watch pros basically see who can click up fastest. I watch the community games, and the legends videos because of how entertaining the strategy is. That's how I knew the game back in 1999 and how the game should be played. Competitive play ruined the game IMO.
@HaoSci
@HaoSci 2 жыл бұрын
OK. here's how you do it. 1. You can't ram the wall with siege rams without killing onagers. (I think this is pretty obvious). And you need to use a lot of trebuchets in order to kill them, since Vikings don't have access to bombard cannons. You can also destroy walls using trebuchets, but it's more time consuming to do so. 2. you need to get rid of the trees (e.g., using trebuchets and onagers) in order to great a wider open ground if you want to use cavalry against enemy scorpions. Otherwise, Fatslob's scorpions will only focus fire on your melee units and quickly destroy them. 3. you need to focus on getting gold. To do that, get relics and mine gold mines around the forest. 4. you need a lot of additional military producing buildings (e.g., barracks, stables, castles, siege workshops, and archery ranges) in order to replenish lost units. 5. you need to get your monks to heal your units, because it saves your resources. 6. To defend against fatslob, create a funnel behind the frontline. The funnel will be wider on your side and narrower on the enemy side, so you can focus fire on them a few enemy units at a time. And scorpions can do a good job defending narrow corridors and paths in black forest. So produce a lot of them! 7. To attack fatslob, you need to get flexible and creative. Attack multiple pathways, create a wider pathway for your units to go through so he can't focus fire on you. Create distractions, sneak your villagers into his base before he is able to wall up.

Nice cast. But it seems so easy to counter it. 1. Get eco lead 2. Use market early 3. Get like 30-40 trebs and kill everything 4. Build castles to defend behind your treb push

After the first Siege Ram push, if Red had kept his arbalests forward, to snipe Fatslob villagers and onagers that just came out of their workshops, I think he would have successfully pushed through then and there and won. I'm incredibly disappointed that he didn't do that and just skipped ahead at that point.

I chop stragglers when my villagers are idle near my tc, but I still need them there soon. So they chop stragglers for a bit of extra wood while I need wood somewhere else for farms, or my mistimed boar lour is still coming, or I have not found my sheep. EDIT: also this reminds me of the mongol campaign into china. 6 trebs destroyed their walls easily. And couldn’t you beat him with British longbows?

What if Mrister24 used trebuchets (at maximum range) to destroy the fortified walls, "walking" the trebuchets up as the walls are destroyed. Meanwhile send an archer(arbalest)/skirmisher forward towards the fortified wall, to harass villagers. Keep sending an archer/skirmisher forward, one at a time, after each archer/skirmisher dies. It forces Fatslob to micro the mangonels, rather than auto-retaliate lest his mangonels start destroying the walls he made. If Fatslob switches to scorpions to defend wall, you can then switch one or two treb's to harass the scorpions. Keep clearing the forest around Fatslob's position, and collect the resources that Fatslob won't be able to grab (because of his defensive play). If you manage to breakthrough, use fast units (scouts maybe), in a scattered formation, past Fatslob's siege-heavy frontline and force Fatslob to fight in two opposing directions. Keep splitting units off to individually/sporadically attack. First the mang's to force additional micro from Fatslob, then scorpions, then switch, and keeps attacking his units with individual numbers; scorpions and mangonels seem very good at killing groups of units efficiently, so individual unit attacks make them less efficient, and more liable to self-harm. Use treb's (just a few) to keep harassing the siege from a distance, while maintaining pressure on the walls. You could even clear-cut a straight line of forest, then chopper back towards your own forest, denying Fatslob even more late game resources. I'm a novice/unranked player though. I only have experience playing against AI's on extreme. I'm just used to fighting enemies that are WAY stronger than me, upfront; denying economy gain, keeping active vision, and focusing macro with minor micro adjustments, is how I compensate.
