its strange to sit here at the age of 37 and remember how this song made me feel when I was listening to it on smoke breaks, working overnights at Walgreens as a 17 year old kid. I'd like to hear the actual live audio track from this performance. this is obviously after major overdubs and a re-recording of all of the vocal tracks in the studio. That, plus they add in all of the effects on the voice and even used drum samples. I'd like to know what parts they actually kept from the live performance. I'm not knocking them in any way..I'm just interested. We all know live albums and most live productions aren't actually live. Usually the drums tracks are kept in order to keep the live feeling, but that's it. But in this, it is obvious that even some of the drums were re-recorded or replaced with samples.
@phildimopoulos60104 жыл бұрын
Michael R. ... yeah, I think about this often... like how Tom Delonge can barely play 50% of the notes correctly on his guitar typically, yet crushed the blink-182 live album... or Jason Cruz not missing a note singing on Strung Out’s live album, when typically his vocal range is suuuper limited when playing live... makes you wonder how much is corrected, or even redone, in post-production eh?

Absolutely. He's the best drummer in all of punk us argue. As a drummer, the finnesse he has, also with the amount of punch, while using really not much energy, is not something a lot of ppl do.its hard. I've watched drum covers and ppl get burnt out by the end of songs.they just dont have the chops. As smelly gotten older his posture on the kit and his train like steam are bizarre. You'd think hed be slower/sloppier, but he's better than he's ever been on the kit. Vids from 92 make him look like a different guy playing.slouched.dreads.sweating.still on time but seemingly having a harder time doing so . now Sure a Travis barker has all the tommy lee flare, but smelly could outplay him and out stamina him as well

Also: - "the decline" still is the one song that gives me an idea of how patriotism must feel when the "national anthem" plays - I feel connected to all the fellow punks, nonconformist, hippies and queers and I am proud of me and everyone who resisted all temptations of greed and never sold their integrity for money or power - Mike still can wear everything - Eric still getting more attractive every year , so - I still would be happy to be his sex-slave

I was poor, felt like the only person in town my age who wasn't going to school. I had a 13" black and white tv with dials that made a satisfying thunk when you changed the channel, which I didn't do much since my antenna only picked up ABC and 2 different PBS stations. There was this college radio station I found coming out of WSU that had a weekly punk show I would listen to, and the guy on there played this song, and that is the story of how you found songs that stayed with you forever back when you didn't even have a computer.

I bought this "EP" the day it came out. I was blown away, and a little emotionally overwhelmed that all that societal criticism and love for humanity could be shared in such a succinct, and EPIC way. I talked to El Hefe and Mike backstage at a Warp Tour in 2000/1 and asked if they would ever do this whole thing live and Mike's response was that he didn't think they could remember it all to play it that way. I'm glad they worked it out. 20 years later and I still get emotional hearing this, and we haven't come very far as a species. Thanks NoFX (and orchestra). Impressive.

It’s funny how I’m sitting here crying listening to this … I’m a 68 yr old potato farmer, I remember when this song first came out and the effect it had on my crops when I’d play it on the gramophone outside. They would grow an inch or two by the end of the song. I’d play it three times a day and those crops sure did love the decline… nowadays you have these fancy farmers listening to kids bop 88 not knowing what real music used to be. They have their fancy machines that do all of the work for them rather than getting their hands dirty. The decline meant something to me then and it means so much more to me now…
