I really advise against trying to leave the screws in the shell. A lot of the time the just end up with screws all falling out or popping out as you manipulate the cover. A better idea is to roughly draw the cover on a piece of paper or cardboard then poke the screws through the paper where they go on the actual part. Thus will keep them both secure and organized.

The reason the DS flashes and then turns off is because it Powers up, does a hardware check, and when the broken screen is checked, it fails and shuts off. It's the same with the folding ones when the hinge breaks and the ribbon cable gets damaged

I love how solid the 2DS feels, despite it being the cheaper model in multiple ways. I guess I missed handhelds that were a single piece like the first GBA model or the PSP. The Switch is good with its single screen, but the Joycons still wobble around a bit. I think I'd enjoy a Switch mini but I play a lot docked so that's a no-go.

Elliot: If you're looking to get into repairs picking up a faulty 2ds is a great way to get into doing a repair. Me a few months ago: my laptop won't turn on. Another great video, Elliot! I love the 2DS; definitely one of my favorite consoles to repair, as it's such an easy system to work with! One trick going forward to keep in mind, is to try to remove the left of the two ribbon cables for the screen, and then boot up the system with it removed (you can just hold the battery in place for a quick test). I've had multiple instances with a busted screen where the system would pop and shut off as you've noticed with this one. I've had other instances with a busted screen, where the system would come on and stay on, but the screen would be blank. In BOTH types of cases, by removing that left ribbon cable and powering it on, the system actually booted! Of course, in both cases the screen was busted; but this did allow the system to boot, and after booting, you'd clearly be able to see the broken screen through the backlights of the display itself. It's not a huge deal; as you've pointed out, it's most likely the broken screen. But it's a quick, easy way to do a quick sanity check before removing the entire board and swapping out the screen!
