I don't really understand why some people despise german so much... it's such a beautiful language, and like other languages it may sound hard OR soft - it just depends on the occasion. I listen to german songs (mostly metal tbh) since i was a kid, but i just found you, and you make me love this language even more! Your music is truly exceptional. Greetings from Italy

Thank You soooo much for the translation! This song has touched my soul but even deeper with knowing what the story is really about. I absolutely loved this!!
@chrisrudolf98392 жыл бұрын
Thanks for providing this good translation. Let me (German native speaker) just help out with two little things: 1. The second line in the first and last verse should be "the wind it blows through our land" (not "that", the "der" is not part of a relative clause here). 2. The "doch" in the 3rd verse in this context should rather be translated as "yet" or "but" than "of course". The night being so cold is what makes her change her mind about her initial refusal to let him in. Fun fact: The number seven in the language of poetry and fairy tales is often used as symbolic for completion or infinity ... just for those who wondered why he should kiss her exactly seven times. When interpreting this song, there is a good point to be made for taking the whole "night and cold wind" situation as symbolic, especially because of the strange emphasis on the fact that the cold wind blows "through our land" (where else should the wind blow, you don't normally emphasize the country when talking about local weather conditions). It could symbolize hard times and/or a figurative "hostile climate", maybe there is a civil war and the man's and the woman's families belong to opposing factions, maybe they belong to social circles that aren't supposed to form connections. She falls for him and decides to be with him despite what her family wants because he faces all those adversities and puts everything at risk for her. At the end of the song, they found each other and things improve for them (symbolized by the coming of the dawn), there are still difficulties to face (the wind still blows), but they will face them together and she is thankful that the bad situation they went through made her decide to take the risk and be with him. Of course I could be overinterpreting it and the song could be just about a guy who wanted to sneak into his crush's chamber at night to get some naughties and she initially wants to send him away because the family expect her to be a decent and chaste girl, but then she let him in anyway because it's freezing cold and the dumbass hasn't brought a warm jacket ;-).

German is a heritage language for me, my mothers side. We are from Iowa, USA, since the early 1900's. Great grandma came alone as a girl of 17. When I was growing up she stayed winters with us and so she and my mom occationally spoke German and I imagined I would remember some words and phrases. The first year of the pandemic I didn't work, heart condition. Im in my sixties. I decided to study German using Duo lingo and other sources on line. I alwas loved Faun and looked forward to perhaps understanding these songs. Just now, I find I can! With this song. It has simple enough lyrics and with those I can extrapolate the other meanings. Im thrilled. Skoal to the beautiful music makers!!

How much German did you learn on Duolingo? I've been dabbling in both Finnish and German on the same platform. I wouldn't say that I'm close to functional though, after half a year.
@sandrag14812 жыл бұрын
@@oldtimehockey7123 You need other sources of learning. Duolingo is just fine to gain vocabulary and a sense for the grammar and even grab enough sentences for a very small conversation. But to really learn a language you should watch films, listen to music and translate the lyrics, read books and if possible, try to find native speakers to have conversations. You need a way into the language, and as long as you can't travel into the respective country and stay there for about three month, you need to do it the frustrating way. I'm German by the way and trying to learn french. So I know your struggle, it's real.

fred müller Ich bin 17 und hier aufgewachsen, also deutsche.

As someone who is learning German in America, I love this song so much. My German teacher played this for my class on halloween and it's been on my spotify ever since.
@Kylephibbsky11 жыл бұрын
German is such an intriguing language, funny, I think I picked up more of that song than I do of most French songs, even though I've studied French much longer. Just something about our grammar similarities, I have to do less work to pick up the context. Really beautiful song, I'm glad I got linked here, FAUN is definitely going on my list.

No wonder, English and German are practically siblings on the indo-germanic linguistic family tree. :)
@0163297 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. It’s a myth that German is somehow more foreign than French is, it’s just that most British and Americans are more familiar with hearing French and (I’m sad to say) that German and Germany too are still to some degree associated with being very different and/or hostile because of the war.

@@evo6135 En effet et il est très facile je trouve pour nous d'apprendre l'anglais il y a moins de complication grammaticale que dans notre langue, mais cela se rapproche :)
@nickyr.29445 жыл бұрын
@@evo6135 yes and no I would say, since funnily enough, according to a study, the more common words are mainly derived from German (like: to, from, what, my, come, yes, no, and, left, right, under, over; as well as words such as: sun, moon, knight, king, street, path, light, water, word) which means though there are but a few, they are used often, while on the other hand the more specialised words so to say are originating in French. However, you'll find a lot, and I mean A LOT more originally French words in an English dictionary than German words, so you definitely have a point. Personally I'd say that when it comes to grammar, English and German are also closer than French and English, but admittedly that is only my own perception, I haven't read up on it, so don't come after me.
