Thats a great idea! I used pumpkin seed by Sico paints for the base (any cream color base will do) and Walnut gel stain by minwax (varathane is great too!). If you listen again (sometimes I watch videos with no sound) I explain how I did it. Essentially I put it on too thick at first and then wiped it off and started over. Try a test piece first.

So I did my doors, we have extreme winters here. It’s peeling and bubbling. I used a very expensive stain. How do I remove the stain?? @BeachBumBoatsmith
@cussininthekitchen82242 ай бұрын
Probably pressure wash it off. If it’s already peeling it’s possible it will come off without the use of stripper, but if not, apply citristrip when the sun is not on it (evening) and wait about 30 minutes-make sure it is all still wet and not evaporating, and then pressure wash off (soft wash). This could have happened because of the dry times/curing, or the preparation of your surface.

I used a color called "pumpkin seed" for the base and its from SICO paints but most paint companies will have something similar. I used Varathane gel stain and the color was WALNUT hope that helps!!

Hey! The color is pumpkin seed from SICO paints. (As long as it’s light and creamy it’ll work). The most important color is the “special walnut” in the gel stain brand minwax Hope this helps!!

Hey! Absolutely, I used pumpkin seed. By sico paints. But honestly, any neutral light colour will work. And the stain is special walnut

I'm confused by your identification of the base coat as being a "vinyl" paint. Is this a latex paint used to cover a vinyl product?.... is it also possibly all-in-one with primer?..... also SICO seems to be a Canadian specific brand. It would be good if you can re-state what you used and show a product label, product number, or anything like that to be more clear what this is. This is important enough not to get wrong !!! .... :)
@dcwoodworks8 ай бұрын
there are certain paints made for vinyl, essentially its just an exterior paint. SICO is canadian but I also love benjamin moor and they have a phenomenal exterior vinyl paint aswell
@TheWilferch8 ай бұрын
@@dcwoodworks ..I get all that.....for stuff like this it is good to use specific product references like product numbers and such....just sayin'. Listing generalities like Benjamin Moore as a company name and such simply opens the door to ...too many possibilities. Thanks.

I work in the paint industry and people keep doing this. DONT DO IT. GEL STAIN AND POLY DO NOT GO ON PAINT. IT WILL FAIL. JUST BECAUSE IT LOOKS FINE AFTER 2 YEARS DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE AVOIDED CHEMICAL DAMAGES

My builder painted the textured fiberglass door black.. I prefer gel stain. Do you recommend that I strip the paint off and then do the gel stain and poly instead of painting tan?
@dcwoodworks Жыл бұрын
@@lauraclinkscales104 are you going for the wood look? The tan color is what shows through the gel stain so I think it’s a very important step I also don’t think you need to strip off the black. Just scuff it up, use a good primer and then paint over it
