to me, the end result looks fine, but I think I would not have used that bright yellow base layer. I think a tan base layer would have been easier to deal with, quite possibly not needed the second coat.

You painted the grain strokes in the wrong direction in between the panels. The strokes should have been vertical on these.

All of the grain is traveling on a horizontal direction on this door and you should follow the grain.

to me it looks like the door is stamped with a 'fake grain' that runs entirely left to right. Where are you seeing the fake grain running vertical?

One thing he did get right was to do or paint between where the panels meet in the segments. I don't know why he missed the whole wood grain directional thing? That would seriously bother me, I have Asperger's. That would drive me nuts.
