Thanks for the presentation on varying the colors on bead heads. I will be trying some matte black and copper in the future. I tend to gravitate to the gold beads probably more because they catch my eye, maybe not so much that they catch the fishes eye. I did want to share that I recently started using blood red beads on eggstasy fly patterns to imitate the blood spot. Tied some them on a size 20 with a very small tungsten bead and done well.

Hi Gary, and thanks for the kind words. As mentioned, those colors work best for me...but nothing wrong with gold! The blood red beads sound killer, where did you purchase them from? Thanks! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

I laughed when you said the orange bead flies stayed in your box for 8 months. I’ve had orange beads for about that long and have yet to put them on a fly. I’ll be doing so soon. Thanks for the video. Excellent as always.

Thank you for all the advice in this upload Tim. I’ve been, since the start of my tying adventure, keen on colours but, not being very wealthy, have to restrict my outgoings with materials so tips in this arena are always welcome. Thank you for another great upload dude. 😊😊😊

Great video! I've been big fan of matte olive beads with a dubbing hot spot and purple beads on darker bodied nymphs

My favorite is rainbow beads. They look really good on Mayer's mini leech jigs and a lot of different colors of baby buggers.

I am pretty simply with my bead colors. I would say that I use Black Nickel and Copper the most of any. The Black Nickel really for those bright clear days when bling is the last thing you want. It works all the time, but I like to have a lot of them for when fish are spooky. Mix in some silver and gold. That’s more than enough $$ invested in tungsten beads of all sizes….and more than gets the job done lol. I actually use a fluorescent pink bead on my worm and egg patterns at times. Love the matte black and see value in those for caddis but haven’t implemented them yet. Thanks for the video!

Great video. I definitely agree that bead color can drastically affect the effectiveness of a fly and angler confidence. For me, copper is my go to confidence color for sure. Rounding out my top four would be metallic pink, silver, and black nickel. Cheers, and tight lines!

I know if some older guys that say only silver beads in early season or only in deep water and other colors like copper fur the rest of the time. I do well on silver in all situations. What is your take on this? Thanks!!!
@TimCammisa2 жыл бұрын
Bead colors are definitely suggestive...and silver is a color I use A LOT! Re: your friends, I can share that I never catch fish on gold beads, but that's because I don't fish them. I'm also aware that many fish in certain areas key on certain colors, which is another factor. But as mentioned in the video, that matte black is a winner in so many situations, especially with pressured fish. Thanks for the question and I hope all is well. Tim www.troutandfeather.com

My preferred bead color depends on 3 factors: sunlight levels, fly location (point or dropper), and fishing pressure. In bright sun, I usually go for nickel - some sheen, but a more natural color - compared to using a brighter bead in low sun. For dropper flies, I prefer silver regardless of sun conditions to imitate the gas bubble of an emerging nymph. In pressured waters, I’ll use the less popular colors, e.g. pink or orange, since the trout may be wary of the typical bead colors anglers use.

Really love your thoughts and ideas, thank you so much for sharing. In my area, light pink is a very popular choice, so maybe not so much where you fish? Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Tough choice. But, if I had to choose one color, it would be gold. However, not all gold beads are the same. Some brands are more “yellow”, and others seem almost silver in certain light.. Hareline and TroutLegend make the best gold color imo. But, I’d be just as happy with silver beads, especially on my smaller flies - 16 and below. And like the gold beads, not all silver colors are the same. My favorite silver beads (when they are in stock) are Hanaks. Superb color and quality. Copper beads would be my third choice. I catch my fair share with them, it’s just I prefer the “rose gold” colored beads over the standard darker copper beads that were common back in the day.

Awesome thoughts as always! I agree completely with the color changes...but even more, love the rose gold. And light pink, and hot pink! Yes, I have a problem when it comes to beads! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Interesting. 20 or so years ago, I started out tying nothing but brass beads. I'd probably rank it along with silver as my number three currently. I quickly adjusted and have had fantastic luck with copper beads. My #2 would be the black bead. Really haven't done much with the beads like your orange one...except for using them with smaller egg-sucking leeches.

Hi Braden, and that is truly up to the fish. White may imitate a baitfish or simply be more visible to the fish depending on the water clarity. It's been a killer color for me over the years...fish it with confidence! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Guess I'm a little different. I know my bead size by color of bead. So my 2.8s are silver, my 2.4s are copper, and so forth. Makes it easier for me and my brain.
