I bought the Lilliput A12 based on this video, thanks as always for the good reviews. At the price, it is hard to complain about this monitor. I may try a matte iPad screen protector and see if that helps the glare without ruining the image. I think there are two features that would push this monitor over the top... I would love to get 4k over SDI. I avoid HDMI whenever possible. The other wish (and this is nit-picky) but when you use the two-up settings, it would be great if you could rotate the monitor 90°. That way you could get two 16x9 images stacked without much squeezing. Would be an improvement over the super squeezed 2-up options. All in all though, this is a killer find. Glad you recommended it. I also echo other comments here, the fact that I can’t use my iPad pro as a monitor is baffling (without spending thousands on a Teradek). Seems like there would be an accessory of some kind to allow me to plug cameras into an iPad. Business opportunity for some entrepreneurial engineer somewhere.

Hi Caleb, great video! I bought the SmallHD Focus to pair with my GH4 and have been enjoying so far. I only have one issue using it: the color on it looks so different from the image on my camera (using desaturated, natural profile). I adjusted start learning coloring grading and realize it's really important to keep the color match. How do you calibrate your monitors to match the camera? I searched youtube and most people use an automatic digitized probe (cost ~ $200 - $300). Can you do it manually? Could you please do a tutorial about this?

Do you think you'll review the SmallHD 503 & 703 monitors ?
@EthanBares6 жыл бұрын
Hey Caleb! First off love the channel. I've been following you for a while and you are for sure one of the top authorities when it comes to filmmaking and video production. So I have a question for you. I'm looking at getting a monitor. I use the Canon 1dx mark ii and I primarily shoot wedding highlight videos but also do youtube and other commercial work. It should be noted that I do most my filming with the camera on the Ronin-S. I can't decide Between the SmallHD Focus, Focus OLED, and the Ninja V. Between the Focus and Focus HD the former has 800 nits (or something around there) and the latter has 350 nits. Is the OLED worth the extra money for 1080p, bigger screen, and better IQ but then sacrificing the brightness? And then at the price point of the OLED you can buy the Ninja V. I don't have a need for the recording features of the Ninja but at the same time as my business grows it might be a welcome addition to have for 10bit or whatnot. I would mainly use the monitor for its assist features like waveform, false color, etc. so I feel like the Focus is better for that. The Focus OS seems much faster and simplistic and for me time is money during a shoot. As of right now I'm leaning towards the Focus but don't know which to get because the OLED is great except for the brightness. Would love to hear what you think or if anyone else can help me out!

Is there a wearable monitor we can use in a high-glare environment? I'm thinking of a little wearable viewfinder tethered from the camera's video output so I can mount the camera at awkward angles and still maintain exposure, focus and framing. In my case the camera would be attached to a makeshift little rig at knee level and the viewfinder worn like an eyepatch or spotlight. I like to get angles from my little dog's point of view one foot off the ground or maybe three feet off the ground when tracking my young nephews at the beach or a soccer match. The camera's LCD is useless in a bright outdoor setting like at the beach for instance. EDIT: Found a review of electronic viewfinders: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIuYmaVvhJyYnq8
