Favorite Rods for Kokanee Fishing

Not only are those Santiam Kokanee rods amazing, the company itself is awesome. I have 2 of those rods, and broke the tip on one of them loading it in my car. I called Santiam and told them what happened and they sent me out a new tip that same day. Another awesome video Tyler.

Good medium grade rods, haven't tried the Santiam but can't wrap my head around the point of a 4 piece rod... My favorites right now are NW Rods 8' 1 piece, you can feel the kokanee all the way to the handle, great with lead and the D.R.

EDGE RODS just came out with a nice higher end 7'6 kokanee rod. Gonna go break it in on Wallowa in a few days.

If you subscribe to the channel you can go back and see every video Tyler has made about fishing for Kokanee. I knew absolutely nothing about Kokanee, but after watching Tyler’s clear and concise videos I was able to catch Kokanee on my first outing.

Any thoughts on the Okuma Kokanee Black or the Okuma SST Kokanee? I have both and really enjoy the sst.... I’m still testing the Kokanee black model as I find it’s slow action good but the weight of the rod feels much heavier and the balance seems so different then my sst... curious if you could test one of these out too and let us know what you think. Thanks

I have a whole slew of the sst’s but also just acquired 2 of the black rods at the 9ft length. So far I really love the action on them.

I like the SST's for flat lining and light lead never used the Kokanee blacks.

Kokanee BLACKS are great for lead rods, ran 4-5 oz on them

This is totally a shot in the dark. You have a video that discusses the nutrient density in a reservoir as the snow melts come into the reservoir. I cannot find that video, does someone have the link? Thank you.

Tyler, perhaps you need to give the companies you are going to recommend a “heads up” before doing a video featuring their products. I checked both links and the Santiam was “out of stock” and the Paulina Peak site showed nothing under Kokanee rods. Certainly not your fault, but I’m sure these vendors would benefit from increased sales if they had the items you featured in stock.

Santiam rods seem to always be out of stock and a very long wait for if you male an order

A big part of the issue is supply chains worldwide have been up-ended by covid. Its the same story with many manufacturers

Since you use "short" rods trolling (and you seem not worried about lines crossing) do you stagger the two lines (length and/or depth) if so, what is the length/depth of both lines, and do you mix your dodgers/lure setup? I know the mathematical possibilities are endless LOL but do you have a general guidelines?

Im wondering if you have ever heard of hover fishing the Upper Columbia around the Chelan Falls area. Ive fished eggs up there before and have been sucsessful but not real hover fishing. I want to have another alternative when my spinners and superbaits are not working. I wanted to get your idea before I invest money into it. Thanks!

I've never seen them in stock and I've been stalking their website since the last video Tyler mentioned them in. Got any dropper rig rod alternatives? I've been using the velocity kokanee ninja rods for flat lining, idk if they could handle a 4 or 5oz weight though.

@@gameopsdkI have not started using downriggers yet so I use up to 6 oz of weight. I spoke with Jay at Santiam Fishing Rods and explained to him what I was doing and he recommended I use the 8'6" long line rod for anything up to 3 oz of weight and the 7'6" downrigger rod for weights in the 4-6 oz range. I bought two of each and I have used weights all the way up to 6 oz per his recommendation and it seems to be working well.
