Favorite things about our 2017 F250 and the new trailer!

After very little sleep and lots of GO GO GO we took a much needed chill day and I made the video a bit more topic based rather than a vlog. We wash the new truck, install a bed cover, and discuss some of our favorite/least favorite things about the new towing setup!

I would look into getting the trailer wrapped, even if it's a plain color.. It'll help protect the paint underneath from getting scratched. Also, the problem with trailer panels is they are made out of 18 or 20 gauge aluminum and it's a pretty large surface, they always look dented.

You are spot on 1st world problems Adam! No matter what trailer you buy from even the most expensive manufacturer they look "dented" when in reality its waves in the thin sheet alum. White trailers show this the least and the darker color you get the more it is noticeable. This is from many yrs experience and having many trailers. That 2 ft of space behind the axles is very nice just learn how to load the trailer right, weight can go back there as long as there is enough weight on the tongue. You have a lot to learn and being so nit picky will just stress you out for no reason.

Also the the reason the exterior metal looks dented is because the trailer flexes a little as ya go down the road. It happens. The trailer is a tool, not a show vehicle

Hey Adam just a small detailing tip when you're using a sponge (best to use a microfibre wash mitt because it traps dirt instead of dragging it around your paint like a sponge) don't go in small circles ! That's how you get swirls, so go in long horizontal sweeps so in the event that you're actually putting these light scratches in the clear coat the long light scratches are harder to see than concentrated swirls! But going in long sweeps will require more trips back to the buckets so make sure you're always lubricated ;)

Agreed that Ford leather seems to be a lot softer than BMW leather. However that's also the reason that every older Ford truck has torn leather- it's not super durable over the long run. Meanwhile that stiffer BMW leather lasts quite a while- I have a 17 year old BMW with 191k miles and original leather that has no tears, and a 14 year old BMW with 214k miles that has really good leather as well.

easy tip: when your car has been sitting in the sun, rinse it with cold water for a while as it cools down the panels so it gives you more time to rinse off.

Also - there's some cool power retractable bed covers that also support up to 500 pounds. You can open them to any position and then lock them in place. Key locked, so you can use it like a trunk and just slide it back a little to throw something in the back and then lock it up. Consider bed storage solutions too so smaller things don't slide around. There's a whole world of mods you can do on pickups!

Adam, there's a little tab that you hook the cap's plastic tether to on the inside of the fuel door. That keeps the fuel cap off the paint. It's tiny and doesn't hold the cap itself. Easy to miss, but it's there.

just a tip, if you drive dusty gravel or dirt roads, fold up the cover first otherwise your bed will fill with dust. Just in case you didn't know :)

Adam LZ, the dents and wrinkles in the trailer are normal. The thin panels get flexed from the wind when you are driving down the road. I followed my Dad down the road when he was pulling his box trailer and you could see the sides moving in the wind. I know that other youtubers will say I am wrong but I followed my Dad quite a few times with his trailer and you could see the side panels moving around in the wind every time. And I agree, it makes the trailer look awful.

For the gas cap solution find small powerful magnets and put one on the cap and one on the fuel door. Using whatever adhesive youre comfortable with. Love the vids btw 👌

Adam if the gas cap scratching the paint bothers you, look into getting a company to wrap you some of that clear protective wrap in that area. It's so barely noticeable unless you look for it, and people with supercars often get the front wrapped this way to keep the paint protected while keeping their cars looking stock. LIKE SO HE SEES.

The swirls are most likely from the use of a sponge (it looked like you used that, and that's sacrilege). And not rinsing the majority of the dirt of before the foaming. You live, and you learn. Love the videoes!

As far as the fuel cap, look on the hinge of the fuel door. There is a little hook. You hang the lanyard for the fuel cap on it and it keeps it from resting against the bed.

The bed cover is by Bakflip, its an MX4 series cover and the instructions are quite clear and concise with lots of details. He obviously did not read the instructions. Installed mine in less than 20 minutes with ZERO issues after reading through the elaborate instructions. He drives an F250 Plat, needs to grow up more for sure.

Ya could maybe have it buffed and have paint protection film (self leveling) applied to the sides of the trailer to help prevent the scratches. Would be costly but worth it on black if you plan on keeping. Very nice set up!!

Order billet aluminum Fuel and DEF caps. They have a magnetic back so they stick to the back of the gas cap when you are filling up. Most diesel guys do this.

A lot of people in Ga. are painting their cars with a rough black primer. So easy to repaint if it gets scratched. And, I highly recommend buying Turtlewax Ice Spray. It waxes your car so fast with no white residue. And, for water spots you need to get one of those rubber blades. They are really cool. Car dries instantly.

My dad has the same style bed cover on his truck and him and I don't really care for it. I'm no sure if it is different on yours but when the cover is all the way up to the glass, the ends of the cover rides on the paint around the glass. He has only drove it like that a few times and it has already rubbed through the paint. It does have rubber on it to prevent it from happening but it still does. And over time the cover has trouble latching down and also unlatching.His cover is nearly 10 years old but those issues happened about a year after installing it. So hopefully the design has improved since! I would hate to see that happen to the paint on such a nice truck

The gas cap has a spot to store it, you can see it on the hinge about an inch away from the clip that holds the tether for the cap. It is just a tab that holds the edge of the cap.

On the topic of replacing aluminum panels it depends on the bonding agent used in the manufacturing process of your trailer. The panels are cheap, but if they are secured with 3m tape or some types of epoxy, you run the risk of damaging your steel sub structure. Do you research before hand as it can get expensive very quickly.

Hey Adam,The panel on your trailer isn't toast the thin aluminum (especially black) will quickly warp because of expansion from the sun shining on it. And yes if you wanted a trailer to look nice long term ... after using it a few thousand miles, never should have gone with black almost anything will hold up better. Also Iv got many miles of trucking behind me in regards to the trailer swaying don't ever try to correct it you will always only make it worse. Just try to keep the wheel as straight as possible, sometimes a tap on the brakes for a short distance will help smooth it out as well.

You should rinse the vehicle first, spending time power hosing areas to loosen the dirt, then use snow foam let it drip off for bit, this will lift the dirt properly and remove it from the paint, then spray it with shampoo, this is then when you use you're wash mitt to wash it, then rinse it off and dry. Extra steps but will protect against swirls better

A nice wrap for the trailer will probably cost as much as a new panel and you can make it look custom. You will always be brushing up against trees with a trailer that tall and long.

adam if you don't wan water and dust getting into the bed you need to seal the stake pockets and seal along the edges of the tailgate where they meet the bed, I have had that type of bed cover and dust will come up under the tailgate, which I found out when driving in a snow storm and everything at the back of the bed was covered in snow.

For the gas cap. It does have a clip but its for the cable that holds the gas cap. You just hook the cable on it. Not sure if it will completely keep it from touching the paint but it should help.

For your fuel cap, there is a little hook right on the hinge of the fuel door that you can place the tether for the cap on. It took me a couple of fill ups to notice it. Hope that helps!

Car tip: It's good practice to never go in circular motions when washing a vehicle. Circular motions cause swirls which can easily be seen in light and in any direction. As for washing in one direction if there is any scratches made it, cannot be seen in all directions. The only time you should wipe in circles is if you are cutting, polishing and buffing off compounds.

When you're cleaning your vehicles, dont scrub in circular motions, scrub like forward backwards, because if you make scratches its alot harder to see a straight scratch than a circular scratch.

for the fuel cap--put a small bit of valcro kn the top of the cap then onto the actually side of your lid

The gas cap, you just take the little plastic connecting strand, and slot it into that little clip on the arm of the door. It should keep it held up enough to keep it off the paint.
