Hi Robbie I bought moringa seeds on eBay that you suggested. I got 100 seeds and I soaked about 6 between paper towels till I saw some roots sprouting. I’ve put them into soil blocks and I have 100% germination. Don’t know how they will transplant into the yard but I’m just excited to have the little guys up out of the dirt 🤗

Good luck with them, they really like the warm weather, which we still do not have here. I have a few different methods with Moringa, start them in paper towels like you, put in pots that will break down so not transplanting, or straight into the ground...thanks for sharing, let me know how it goes, Robbie

I looked it up....My moringa did not start to really take off until after June, thanks for making me think about that, I might do a throw back Thursday on our 3 big trees, thanks again, Robbie

I had some I germinated in towels and planted and they got about 8 inches tall and the leaves started turning yellow and then died. Hope yours do better.

PNWgardenergal I’m still trying to grow moringa, I’ve got 2 that are about 6” and my summer heat is about to start here in Las Vegas....so I’m going to germinate more for a late summer planting

They take a while to root - it leafs out first and then develops root after so can seem deceptive. I've lots of cuttings that I can share for free if you ever fail on those. Keep the cuttings cool and moist otherwise the stem will rot easily in the heat with moisture. Easiest time, in my experience, to root is in fall/winter when the weather cools.

Wow, thank you, and thank you so much for that advise, I will be sure to keep them cool if the weather warms up, again, thank you, Robbie

I agree, I rooted my purple tree collard indoors during the winter in a clear container so I could see when it had roots. Misted it several times a day.

I ordered my purple tree collard cutting from California lol A seller on ebay that John Kohler did a vid on a little while back. Rooted it indoors in a clear container till I could see roots over winter and put it in a big container outside this spring. They grow SUPER FAST! That little cutting is now about 3 ft tall with beautiful big leaves!

I really like plants (food plants) that last and grow for years too. I have been wanting to get purple tree collard, so glad I found this person, once they get started I should have them for years. I need to get into Gary's garden, where one of his tree collards I gave him fell over, because he did not stake it, AND it is still growing. THANKS, Robbie

Update, Ok...I have one on the way, should be here in a few days, I already have a 20gal tote ready too. ThankyThanky! Edit: And Now I see your post reply, I will stake mine so it is well supported, It is already against a chain link fence, so it should be easy. I guess this would go for the Dino Kale too. True, true. I have to address this before it becomes trouble. Thanks once more.

Living in Milwaukee, Zone 5B, I suspect I'll have to grow in a container and either take annual cuttings or bring it inside, watching for bugs. Ha!

NICE VIDEO! I never thought that Tree collards may not grow true from seeds, however, there is a little difficult to get Tree Collard cuttings in my country, I wanna try seeds this year. I bought a similar one called Walking Strick Kale, and there do germinate now. Hoping they will become REALL TREES, LOL

I got 2 tree collards and 2 purple tree collards a year ago at the Certified Plant Growers after I saw your video. The purple tree collard is much easier to grow. I have so many cuttings. Best thing was they were under $2 each. I will have to got there again when I visit Southern California.

Do you still have tree collard plants or slips for sale? I would be interested for some plants to grow? What is the cost for the tree collards plants? Please let me know so I can start growing tree collards for your good fertilizer. I am trying your tote gardens because it is easier than the regular garden way.

Robbie, do you ever preserve/store your collard leaves? Can you freeze them without blanching? I know there is an enzyme in most leafy greens, and blanching helps stop that process. But with Beet greens, you can cut into smaller say 1" sized pieces, and freeze without blanching. I'm wondering if that would be true with Collards...?

How are the purple ones different from regular tree collards. I don't know anything about either one.
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy 5 жыл бұрын
Most likely pretty much the same, maybe a bit more antioxidants due to the added purple color to the leaves. MY GUESS would be that the green version would be a stronger plants, but again, for now that is only a guess...so time will tell. Our green ones grow so easy....I am thinking of doing a "walkabout" here and showing Gary's Green tree collard that fell over, yet still growing. Thanks, Robbie
