I am 25 and I still find fascinating middle grade books! Especially lately where every YA book I pick is a disappointment. I hope you have a great reading year!!! 😊
@CapturedInWords7 жыл бұрын
Middle grade books are always the most imaginative!! Haha sadly I totally relate to being disappointed with most YA books -.- It seems like a lot of middle grade books are written better tbh. Thanks, have a great reading year as well!

I also read The Wise Man's Fear this year and loved it! That is a great point about the musicality of the book, I also loved that. You read so many great fantasy books this year!

I just finished the Mistborn trilogy and I absolutely LOVED the last book and how everything came together. I literally had to put the book down and give myself time to think about how superbly it was written. This trilogy will remain one of my all time favorites for sure.

I also read the wise man's fear (& the name of the wind) and definitely two of my favorite reads of 2017. And the way Rothfuss desribes music is just so beautiful. His writing is probably my favorite writing style. I have never read a book by Sanderson #theshame.
@CapturedInWords7 жыл бұрын
They are such great books! Rothfuss has such a unique writing style, I just love it :) Sanderson is also a fantastic writer! His writing isn't as beautiful as Rothfuss's, but he has amazing ideas, characters, worlds, and magic systems ^_^ For sure one of my favourite authors

I never finished neverwhere but I definitely am getting around too it.

Neverwhere was my first Gaiman too and still one of my favorite books. I plan to read Sanderson's Cosmere books this year, or at least get up to The Stormlight Archives.

The best books I read in 2017 include 1. The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson - This book was so good! It has the most unique way of fighting! And the characters were also so interesting and different. Not at all your usual YA stereotypes. Usually in books, the girl is the smart one, and the boy is the comic relief. But this was different. Some people might consider it to be slow, since there's more mystery-solving than action. But I would highly recommend it, because I think you would like it. 2. The Tintin Comics by Herge - Flight 714 is the best, in my opinion. 3. The Thirteen Clocks by James Thurber - It's a kid's book that's super funny and has great pictures. 4. Everyone's an Alien when you're an Alien too by Jomny Sun - Very cute graphic novel, but also very profound. You had a great list of books, and a great video!
@CapturedInWords7 жыл бұрын
Ahhh I need to read The Rithmatist! You made it sound really interesting! I'll try to get to it this year, as I have it waiting for me on my shelf already :) Usually I'm quite patient with books and never really find them too slow, so I'm sure I will enjoy. I love Tintin! I've actually been thinking of picking up the comic collection someday as it's been so long since I've read one. Oooo I haven't heard of The Thirteen Clocks, I'll keep my eye out for it! And I've heard "Everyone's an Alien when you're an Alien too" is really funny! I'll have to read it sometime! Thanks for the recommendations! I'm really interested in reading all the ones you mentioned! ^_^

yass on the shades of magic series. You pointed exactly at the reason why I did not love them as much as everyone else seems to love them (they still feel quite YA to me). I still read the trilogy twice this year, because some of the scenes and stuff that happens are just so cool. I have the same issue a little bit with Mistborn (plus the fact you already know that I predicted parts of the ending pretty early on and kinoff felt the rest of the ending, ending coming). My fave of 2017 was Anatomy of a darkened heart by Christie Stratos. My god, that book is dark and eerie. And such an accurate portrayal of abuse I got triggered (this is positive btw, it means she got her shit right). For a book of just over 200 pages, it packs so much and is such a good character exploration. More people should read it. Support some indie authors
@CapturedInWords7 жыл бұрын
I actually was under the impression that the darker shades of magic series was YA, until someone informed me that it was adult while I was reading the second book XD It definitely feels very YA! Yess I remember you mentioning that about Mistborn, I personally didn't get that feeling in Mistborn but I totally respect your opinion :) Anatomy of a darkened heart sounds really interesting! It's always good to support an indie author ^_^

Ana Wertheimer Haha it's funny because when filming I actually mentioned how the only other Agatha Christie book I've read is And Then There Where None, but I ended up cutting that part out XD Yess I think I like that one better then Orient Express as well! ^_^

I would like to recommend Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. It's a great duology where a crew of incredibly skilled teenagers attempt an impossible heist. There is an interesting magic system, with an exploration of how non-magic users react to and interact with magic in their world.

I can completely relate, school can be pretty rough as far as giving you extra time to read for fun -.- There was some years where I actually read nothing besides school requirements. Please watch "A Monster Calls"! :) Is actually one of my favorite book-to-movie adaptations, the book was also my favorite read in 2017. The Kingkiller Chronicles are amazing as well. And I agree with ADSOM, I haven´t read the two sequels yet but I definitely think that the first book reads like YA. Great Video by the way, I think I should check out The Doldrums and Mistborn this year! :)

I read Elantris & the Mistborn trilogy in 2017 and I’m totally hooked! Hoping to read the rest of his Cosmere books in 2018. I read The Name of the Wind this year this year too. I want to read The Wise Man’s Fear this year too but hoping for a publication date for book 3 first! Wishful thinking probably... 😭 I’m buddy reading A Conjuring of Light right now and we were just talking about how they feel YA! I love Schwab but it feels a little lackluster coming from The Hero of Ages.
@CapturedInWords7 жыл бұрын
Ahhh I forgot about Elantris!! I might read that this year :) You read some great books in 2017! Sadly there's still no news on the 3rd Kingkiller book :( It would be nice if he surprised us and had it published this year. The Wise Man's Fear is really good, I even find it to be better then the first in many ways. Glad you agree with how A Conjuring of Light feels YA! I actually thought the series was a YA series until someone informed me it was Adult halfway through the second book XD
