I'd recommend Demon's Ink by Clayton Snyder. It's an urban Fantasy book that is short and violent and might be the funniest thing I've read. Clayton's sarcasm is unmatched. lol The Jacked Nerd, Brandon Bennett, and Epic Talez all have really cool booktube channels. Oh and Jamez Dahl Sci-fi and Fantasy music - has a great channel where he makes sci-fi and fantasy music.

The gatekeepers a sci-fi/fantasy/horor series, The Seven Realms a high fantasy series, The Luner chronicles which is futuresk sci-fi, The Rangers apprentice which is more epic fantasy, The Raven cycle/Dreamer trilogy which has magical realism, The Timekeeper trilogy which falls under steampunk, and The Mediator series which is pretty much set in modern time with romance but also has some mystery and interactions with the dead. These are some of my favorite series along with some that you already mentioned in this video. I haven't read much Urban fantasy that has stuck with me but two are: Stalked by Flames and The Soul eater series. Moving during elementry... me too! I even started reading books around the same age. I actually found Library of a Viking's youtube channel less then a month ago, and I loved his video on how fantasy is seen as lesser. It was amazing finding that and I couldn't believe it when you mentioned him. Love those quotes and good luck with getting to all those books.

There is an essay by Tolkien called “On Fairy-Stories” where he explains why fantasy literature is so valuable and important for adults. That’s a good reading for the ones who love fantasy and for those who criticize it (if that doesn’t change their minds, it would at least make them understand it better and why so many people love it). Great video, Jay!

For Urban Fantasy you should try The Matthew Swift series by Kate Griffin. Not so much Urban, but a mix of 2 worlds is The October Daye series by Seanan McGuire. Not anything whatsoever to do with Urban Fantasy, but I find that not enough people have read them, I think that Trudi Canavan is a wonderful writer, and literally anything by her is fantastic.

I'm with you all the way, Jay, fantasy has its value for sure! I think the first fantasy books I read were The Mists of Avalon when I was probably 13 or 14. Then, when I turned 18, my sister's boyfriend gave me The Witching Hour by Anne Rice, not knowing it was a series, which I instantly fell in love with and ended up reading all the vampire, ghosts, angels, you name it, books by Anne Rice. Many years later, having read all kinds of stuff in between, I picked up The Northern Lights and liked it. When I had finished all three books, a friend suggested The Name of the Wind. And that's how I found you! Apologies to the other booktubers, but I only watch Jay's channel♡.

Hey man, quick suggestion on Dresden Files - Read the first four books before doing your first review. I think most authors would be happy to write books as good as the first 3, but it's on book 4 that Jim started to hit his stride on what Dresden Files was going to become. Also the whole series is the best example I've seen of watching an author's growth as a writer bloom over the years with each book - Next to what we're witnessing now with Brandon Sanderson.

Well my favorite books are fantasy romance books. If you haven't yet you NEED to read Sarah J. Maas books. The Throne of glass series and A court of thorns and roses series are amazing! Also everything i've read so far of Jennifer L. Armentrout was amazing! She has a bunch of fantasy romance series. And if you are interested i follow a book club that is dedicated to fantasy series. I found it on youtube and it's called "Fantaseries". This month we started the Jade city books. And right before that we read The poppy wars books. You will find it if you just search on youtube.

@CapturedInWords2 жыл бұрын
I went to 2 Christian elementary schools as a kid, both only for 1 year. This is where I was introduced to Narnia and Medallion, and at the time I don't remember facing any difficulties with liking fantasy. Later on though my family became pretty strict with no Harry Potter in the house (I remember hiding my books under the bed) despite the fact that we use to watch all the movies together as a family. That's something my family is still very against which is a bummer. I definitely need to read Dresden soon! I'm very tempted to start the audio book! Maybe next month I'll finally do it

i just wish fantasy authors actually had some experience with how living in historical times worked. Like actually working a field, holding a torch, manufacturing something, sailing a ship or just hiking for an extended period. It often reads like something, from somebody, who never sets foot outside.
