I'm very glad you are both so positive about eating! I fear a lot of young dancers and gymnasts, etc. are still being told that being very thin is the standard they should/must try for even if their body type is clearly not genetically designed to look "waif-like." I'm glad you talked about the importance of carbohydrates but I was a little surprised to hear virtually no mention of protein. I'm not a dancer nor an elite athlete but I worked a physically demanding job with 12 hour shifts with no scheduled breaks. One was officially entitled to an hour meal break, but it was often not possible to take that. One could not rely on access to a refrigerator for any meals or snacks that one wanted to bring. One of the big difficulties was getting enough food/nutrition into one. I relied rather heavily on protein drinks, and protein bars. Thank you very much for the video!

I thought they did. Protein digests at a slower rate, they said you have to time when you take it in protein in so it didn’t mess with what you were doing and make you sluggish. Snacks and food during the day had to be things which fitted around energy expenditure during the day schedule.

@@dees3179 OK, I must’ve missed that. Thank you for letting me know!

@@dronesclubhighjinks it was sort of mixed in. And my explanation wasn't clear either, sorry. Using voice to text. I believe they were eating protein after rehearsal day was over not during the day unless they knew there was a long enough slot to digest something like nuts, but even that was iffy.

@@dees3179 I see! Thank you for explaining. I use transcription as well and it’s remarkably frustrating. How many words it misunderstands and how often it feels like, putting in punctuation where none is required. There is an example right there. It decided to put a period in between “frustrating” and “how” even though I said it all in one sentence without a pause. It also put a comma in after “like.” 😄🙏🌸🌺

It's such a hard balance as you still have to be so lean you can't have many reserves already in your body. It's quite amazing they do not have hard rules on meal time, I mean what do they expect, dancers to live of air? Same with your hormone cycle, I had too many reserves and I still craved red meat the week before. And too little body fat is low hormones and low energy.

Hydration is also extremely important and I'm glad you mentioned electrolytes. Hydration is at least as important as food.

As an older adult, who did an intensive, I had to snack and eat for fuel in a serious way. It made such an amazing difference❤
