I’ve dealt with just trying to find female bathrooms on piers where the submarines are docked that I’m working on. My 5’1” height came in handy quite often for the work I needed to do finding valves on the submarines! I was involved in unlocking a defendant's phone data, using the same software that the FBI does. When you delete something, it's not immediately erased, it's just removed from the device's "table of contents" and the space it occupies is marked as available. But the data remains in that space until something new is saved in the same location. You can usually retrieve recently deleted data pretty easily. The older it is, the more likely it's been fully or partially overwritten. But I also think it's likely that he had a different phone and an alternate identity. You don't undertake something this monumental on a whim!
