It's best to be polite, assert your 5th amendment rights, and discuss things only with your attorney. Innocent people will often give information that can be used to build a case against them. Some police may just not like you based on an impression and work to steer you toward incriminating statements.

The Bush administration hired legal staff to try and rewrite the definitions of torture so they could waterboard and such while defining it as "enhanced interrogation" and not torture. What makes it worse is they had a secret judge you do it. So even if someone were to actually look it up the changes would have been classified in which that case they wouldn't have known that the definition changed
