‘Talent Days’ is what many European clubs call their tryouts. These tryout can be open (any appropriately aged player can attend) or closed, meaning, only players who have been scouted but the scouting department can attend. The players are put through a series of training exercises and small sided games to determine athleticism and ability level.
I really like the simplicity of this dribbing exercise. The distance between the 2 tall orange cones is 12 yards . This distance between the 2 disc cones in the center is 2 yards. I love the fact that are many of these dribbling stations setup so there is minimal standing around by these young players. There is only one ball per station.
This a relay race between the different stations. The first team to get all players across the start line wins. At the trainers signal, the player with the ball at the front of each line, as fast as he can, dribbles to the disc cones, performs a quick change of direction through them, dribbles at speed to the opposite tall cone, dribbles around it, back through the disc cones then back to the start line where he leaves the ball on the line for the next player waiting to go. This continues until the last player dribbles back across the start line for the win.
A few variations could be:
1. After getting around the far tall cone, the dribblers DO NOT go back through the disc cones a second time but dribbles as fast as they can (break away) back to the starting point.
2. After getting around the far tall cone, instead of dribbling straight back, the players must pass to the next waiting player. This then makes the exercise a dribbling AND passing exercise.
3. After dribbling around the far tall cone then the dribblers must go back through the disc cones before passing the next waiting player.
4. The players must dribble through any of the above circuits twice.
The possibilities are endless. Use your imagination!
