How To Replace a BMW F30 Engine Air Filter (BMW 3-Series F30 F31 320i 328i 330i xDrive & More)

►If you have a BMW F30, you probably already understand why it's important to regularly change the engine air filter.
The engine air filter is responsible for filtering the air that enters the intake before it has a chance to reach the throttle body or turbo. Why is this important? If you have a damaged air filter or no air filter at all, any small dirt, debris, leaves, or other foreign materials brought in through the intake would directly enter your throttle body or turbo and potentially lead to catastrophic failure. If your engine air filter is dirty and clogged up, airflow to the engine would suffer, potentially resulting in poor fuel economy, rough idle, and other symptoms of a "choking" engine.
We recommended that you change out the engine air filter every 30k-40k miles or every tune-up. It's an easy and inexpensive item to replace that gives you peace of mind and prolongs the life of your engine.

For those doing this. Disconnecting the sensor and removing the entire cover off is unnecessary! After removing cover clips......Just lift cover a bit and you can take out filter to replace

If you find yourself fighting that rubber grommet on the left because it came out of the c-shaped bracket, remove the grommet from the air filter to get it back in the bracket first then slip the airbox back into the grommet.

As per this video he says the filter without the additional grey lining is M sports filter, but on their website (FCP Euro) they are selling that same filter saying that it is a standard filter for cars w/o M Sports package. 😕

You identified the filters incorrectly. The filter on your right is for the M sport package.

This was helpful. Unfortunately I broke the tip of a little intake connector that has a small hose line connected to it that feeds up into the engine somewhere. The connector is on the back of the air intake box about two inches from the sensor. What part is that and can just that be replaced? Not the whole box I hope.

While changing, I dropped one of the 3 clips that clips the hood cable to the airbox, and I can’t retrieve from the bottom of the car. Know anywhere I can order a replacement?

Never ever ever ever....ever put a rag or any material for that matter to cover a pipe to an open system/engine. If you know you will be doing this maintenance soon then find a plastic or rubber plug possibly around the house OR measure the Diameter of the pipe opening and you can buy them online. Do the job correctly. Opening your intake and not doing it right could be the sole reason something detrimental happens to your engine.

Bmw does over engineering. One handle and you pull filter in hyundai -10 seconds to pull out and 10 seconds to put back.
