I just did this job yesterday. For me it wasn’t necessary to remove the exhaust. Undoing the clamp and hangers, then removing the cross brace allowed the pipe to drop enough to remove and install the pan.

Permatex makes a foam gasket remover that does a good job on the VW/Audi gasket sealant.

Thanks for posting this. I'm about to replace the oil pan on my 1999 Audi A6 C5, which has leaked both times I replaced it after it got a nail in it in a parking lot. (I'm jealous to see an oil pan that isn't the lowest ground clearance point!) The last time I replaced it (for a crack), it was okay. The early C5 A6 and Passat had both RTV and a metal gasket on engine code AHA. Starting in 2001 (or late 2000?) they switched to just the sealant on the ATQ engine that uses the same oil pan. Is there an actual change in the engine or did they just figure out that model year that metal gaskets are unnecessary?

Winter coming should people change their weight of oil on mini bc I when I switched I switched fromCastro liquid M 10/40 even though I never used it 1040 until now

Can you put up a link for the CTA Tool you used to undo the exhaust hangers?

I heard that not all the bolts are the same length and you have to make sure to put each back in the same location that you removed it. Any truth to that?

Hi Charles, all the bolts on this N14 were the same size. For any job that has a bunch of hardware like this, you can always make a template out of cardboard, and set the bolts in it as you take them out to stay organized.

It’s actually a service bulletin through mini to use RTV instead of the gasket.
