Audi S3 Alternator Replacement DIY (2015-2020 Audi 8V A3, S3)

►Your Audi A3's alternator is directly responsible for a number of things, but primarily it's in charge of keeping the battery charged during normal operation. If you begin to have trouble starting the vehicle or find yourself with a regular dead battery, the alternator could be a root cause, and you'll need to replace it. Replacing the alternator is a relatively involved job but not one that requires an expert. The most difficult part of the job will be removing a handful of components just to reach the alternator.
A failing battery could also be the culprit, so you'll have to do some investigation. Don't worry, though; we can help you with that, too.

Interesting timing. I replaced the alternator on my 2015 Audi S3 a week ago. I took it out from the top though and didn't remove / loosen so many components. I removed the radiator hose on that side and the oil pressure sensor itself (24 mm deep socket). Then i used a bungie cord to hold the coolant pipe away from the work area. The alternator BARELY fit through but i got it out. The entire time i kept thinking what a TERRIBLE engineering design - you can literally SEE the alternator right in front of you but it is NOT easy to remove. That goes for ALOT of components on this car. Overall excellent video !

I'm trying to take it out from the top too but it's stuck on the AC line, did you take anything off the intake manifold too?

@@tubesai No no NOOO ! Don't take off the intake manifold ! That's a PITA to deal with. Four things to help you: 1. Remove the oil pressure sensor completely (you'll need a DEEP 24 MM) 2. I took off the upper narrow radiator hose. 3. I removed the two screws holding the hard coolant line and bungie corded it out of the way 4. There is a plastic bracket holding the AC line. *CAREFULLY* remove the line from the bracket and try your best to move the AC line out of the way. Good luck buddy !

​@lordjop9684 thank you for the confirmation. I did the same exact (oil pressure sensor, ac brackets only, and the hard coolant line) all a PITA. I also had to loosen the fan to dip low and rotate the alternator out. After much prayer and singing to myself it's out and will be placing the new one in tomorrow.

The ground wire you mention is the main output to the battery!! Don’t put it to a ground or you will make special smoke. Other than that, nice video. You could prob just dub over that.
