Great explanation sir. One point of observation, you recorded the distance from the inside of the original locknut to the bush clamp, however, the new locknut was thinner than the original locknut resulting in the new ‘track rod’ being screwed further on than the old one would have been. Maybe the measurement should have been taken from the edge of the old tie-rod…assuming the new tie-rod was the same length as the old one?.

Nice work. Is the steering rack bushing replacement going to be a separate video?

great video very thorough. I have a w207 that uses w204 parts mostly and was wondering if hte rack and pinion actually has a bushing or do they bolt directly into the chassis with no rubber buffer? Also I went to an alignment shop and they were unable to align my car although the inner and outer tie rods were brand new and the reason for the alignment they blamed the tie rod for their inability. They turned it the same method that I saw you do to tighten the inner tie rod and there was some play. I noticed this as well but it was a small amount of play from the rack itself moving in the same circular direction as the innertie rod. Is this an issue? I can't see how this would be an issue as the inner tie rod spins in a similar fashion to the inner tie rod. But they claim this was the reason they could not adjust the toe of my vehicle.

I have used a good pipe wrench to take the old one off my jeep and then used my inner tie rod tool to torque the new one on

No need for the dedicated inner tie rod extractor on most MB's, i did it plenty of times on many models and always used an adjustable, it's quick, handy and no wasting time!

Why did you waste so much time separating the inner and outer when you are replacing both and using a new boot. That was a complete waste of time. Just remove it as one part!!!!
