FD3/64 gas turbine run up in semi scale Rc Heinkel He 162

Run up checking my self build FD3/64 to 7psi with mods as below.
alloy open top compressor wheel.
Mark Drake designed combustor with curved vaporizer sticks.
Turbine wheel as per book but cut at an angle to reduce see through, wider blades also main turbine angle 37 degrees tip angle reduced by 2-4 degrees.
m/c from solid alloy front not spun as book,with nylon close fitting to compressor blades.
3% oil in fuel with a restricter fitted to send 3-5% fuel oil to bearings oil fed to front of front bearing air feed from front no air hole in middle of bearing tube.
3 normal size bearings fitted ,one at front two at turbine end.
Run up was to 7 psi case pressure at about 4.30 min max pressure is 7.5 psi which should be about 85k
Only 5c temp on the day and the pump was rattly/slack clearance making the engine run rough you can see the pressure gauge needle bounce and engine shake.

That welding part in Casing near the exhaust section is quiet impressive 😮, can anyone tell me is it done by a Gas welding or electric Welding.

I may have a leak at 4.40 see a drop off the fittings.

What is it that the control stick controls the fule pump and the more fule the more the jet spools up?

yeah very simply the more fuel I pump in the faster it goes but you quickly reach a limit in the strength of the weakest part and must have a restrictor in the system to stop self destruction and keep the RPM limited . The same is true of the acceleration if too much fuel is pumped in to quickly it cannot accelerate fast enough to burn it and exhaust gas temp will rise to quickly flames will appear outside the engine this is much more of a problem when starting and at low rpm .

@@reedy93 oh ok, I've been researching as much as I can on building a jet engine but I don't have a lath and don't know anyone who has one so I know if I did build one I'd have to pay a shop to build a lot of the precision parts I'd need and I'm thinking by the time I did that it would probably be cheaper to just buy one. Anyway, thank you for the input and I appreciate the information. And that's a really awesome jet engine you have, keep up the good work!

kzbin.info/www/bejne/fV7CiJ-MjpqBhpY video of engine striped down with flight at end not worth watching flying mate missed the takeoff and landing only found clip recently had 3 flights in that plane before we moved flying sites which is not suitable for jets, was a bit low on power had to turn it up to 7.5 psi case pressure.

my friend good day could you help me I rode my engine but it did not work I do not know if it is due to compression that is not working due to the starter motor that did not spin up to 50,000 RPM.

Join JATO jet and turbine owners. jetandturbineowners.proboards.com/board/2/diy-turbine-engine-discussion-builds. Your engine is a radial compressor and radial turbine they should be able to help you check your maths in working out the compressor diffuser angles (wedges) and flame tube hole pattern .

check out my other video's for help,turbine wheel video is important and the original combustor with the vaporizer coil gives problems but if run on propane gas should run. kzbin.info/www/bejne/foXVe6GDfbR7Z9U

Hi on this engine the outer front cover is turned from solid aluminium not spun alloy and with a nylon inlet . The compressor wheel is m/c from solid aluminium similar shape and dimensions as book but with no top cover as the plywood wheel has . The nylon inlet cover is a good fit to the compressor wheel as a normal car turbo wheel works.

If you have made the plywood compressor wheel as per the book it is more efficient works good but is limited to 75k rpm I only made mine out of aluminium to up the rpm limit and get more power out of the engine but it does run hotter with open top alloy wheel due to gap loses.

The Thomas Kamps book shows how to design your own engine using car compressor wheels.

@@jacobokpara7618 it's worth buying the book as it covers starting running and controlling the engine safely but this was 20 years ago and is not like today's systems,what you see on my video is a manual start ,the slow running is controlled with the throttle trim,max revs is controlled by a simple restricter on the fuel line which i manually set just off the case pressure reading ,the pump is a simple dc 3 pole motor and a gear pump (MFA model fuel pump) with a esc to control it.
