Childhood obesity is only, in part, due to ultra processed foods. It is also as result of living in households that don’t adhere to home-cooked foods. So many parents feed their households with frozen meals that are junk. Because parents are working outside of the homes and at the end of the day go with what’s most convenient. It’s daycares and schools that are feeding kids. And they feed them trash! We need a stay at home parents ! We desperately need to get low income households to have income for stay at home parent with meal planning programs with oversight. Incentives and education.

That is not true. Physical Education is decided by individual states. The federal government cannot dictate school curriculum. New York requires P.E., pre-school through college.

Congress can change this, and only congress. I'm surprised by the amount of comments about schools. The federal government has no power when it comes to education, except for Washington D.C. Each state makes its own standards, curriculum, and each district makes food choices. What is fed to students, or taught for that matter, in one state is not necessarily the same as another.

Obviously parents have a responsibility that’s not the point. The food in schools are terrible. The government is responsible if they’re allowing extremely harmful chemicals into the food and products. No one is contesting that parents have a responsibility. It certainly doesn’t help the struggle when extremely harmful / unhealthy and highly addictive foodstuffs are deliberately and aggressively advertised to appeal to children.

They did ! Problem is they taught it wrong!! For example, the W.I.C program requires participants to attend nutrition classes which still recommends "6-11 servings of white enriched or whole grain breads and cereals" The major problem is food industry lobbiest have serious influence and "the experts" don't even agree on a "balanced diet " looks like. We have figured out that our government does not know best, which includes the fda ,nih, even the cdc, so we need to find a way to evaluate the "fringe" scientists.
