the FDA is 90% drug regulation, 10% food regulation. i get that drug testing is costly and time-consuming, but the state of our food industry is ridiculous. we need an independent food regulatory body if the FDA isn't interested or able to do that part of their jobs.

Actually, the thing that REALLY worked was the old formula for a capsule called Contac which had belladonna in it. But they decided that ingredient was just too "dangerous" for us mere common folk to handle. One capsule cleared up my congestion--from the WORST colds--& kept it gone. Unlike the junk they approved, which does NOTHING and which I told my doc repeatedly does NOTHING.

Hi. Pharmacy technician, here. Just a warning for those of you who want to buy behind the counter pseudoephedrine. You do need a form of ID to purchase (we usually scan the back of a drivers license) because the amount you can purchase is limited per month (or something along those lines) and the pharmacists (at least the ones I work with) do NOT recommend it for people with high blood pressure.

B.S. If it did not work, how did it get FDA approval in the first place, no matter the route of administration? As well, pseudoephedrine and ephedrine are VERY effective meds for nasal decongestant issues, yet the world has made these meds almost impossible to acquire for law-abiding citizens. How about just giving "informed consent" and letting people choose what to put in their bodies? Stop regulating everything to the pint of not being able to get the meds we need, when we need them.
@erich6860
@erich6860 12 күн бұрын
Because the FDA used the studies at the time of it's approval, including the ideology of how those studies got conducted. The doctor flat out said this. As far as your anger towards the impossibility of getting meds with pseudoephedrine... you just got to ask for it from the pharmacy, because it's behind the counter. Much like nude mags are behind the counter. To keep them away from people who should not have it.
@dannelson6980

"impossible to acquire"? you just have to ask for it. Five minutes and having to talk to someone is close to an insurmountable task. They explained how it was approved, in some forms it works and other forms it cannot. In the US we tend to let companies do all the testing and all the agencies can do it review the data, which is why this stuff takes years to find out and fix. I'm sure the companies would never cut corners.
