His son, Robert Morris Jr. succeeded him as Rescue 1 Captain. First time in FDNY history that a son has replaced a father as Company Captain, how cool is that?

+AR John I call that very nepotistic!

Nepotism from feckless libtard unionists is what it is. Typical fire department.

I have to agree with the nepotism angle. Our department even goes as far as not allowing a family member to be in charge of another family member. Example : a District Chief and a firefighter perhaps at different stations, but in the same District. No way !!

Hey, if his son put in the time, work and training and testing for that promotion, give it to him I say. He deserves to follow in his dad's footsteps. Thanks capt for your service and dedication to the dept.

This great captain did 40 years and said it wasn't enough !!. An amazing officer, on the most famous rig in the whole of the fire service !! Hears to a long and healthy retirement, Capt. Morris ...

The saying goes, "If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life." This couldn't be more true than in the fire service. Ask any of us. Even my worst shift, I wouldn't trade it for the world. There's a few calls I could have done without. There's a few firefighters I could have avoided working with. There's this 1 ff, the biggest asshat in the fire service, nation wide !! He was present during my physical fitness test while applying. He kept asking me, "how much can you bench", to which I responded "I don't know, I'm concentrating on passing this test". He didn't care for that response, and I didn't care. Fast forward 2 years, and we're inside a structure fire, doing overhaul. As I turn the corner, who do I see ? Yup, him !! And he remembers me, and asks me "how much can you bench"....arrghhh not again, I thought. But, I got the job, and so it didn't matter anymore. P.S. I never did tell him :-)

When a guy has worked 40 years and loves the job still....you KNOW he made the right decision in his life. I've watched 22 years go by on the job and still feels like day one to me. When people make the right choice....my how time flies.

How true !! And along with that, although I'm only 12 years in...is that feeling when you wake up to your alarm, if you haven't got up yet, and you know it's time to go to work today !!! It's like a hockey dressing room, lasting 24 hrs !! There's a few things I see changing, or about to, and not for the better. I feel on here is the safest place I can vent. So brothers, tell me....how do you feel about the girls sleeping in the same quarters as you ? We had an open-space sleeping quarters, until 1 girl decided she didn't like 1 of the new Captains, maybe because he passed all of his testing and got the promotion, and she didn't...anyways, enough of that shit. But she complained he was being "creepy" in the sleeping quarters, and a good guy got stripped of his stripes, and suspended. Good way to get yourself hated bitch !! Especially when you pick on one of the most liked, respected, and all-around good guy ! I'd trust my entire family, my entire bank account, with him ! When I work for him, it's paradise guys, let me tell ya ! You know that calm feeling you get when you are in roll call, and you get assigned your rig, and your captain is awesome ! that's him. Example : we had a run to the casino during evening chow. Instead of running out, he says "my crew, sit down and finish your chicken, we may be their awhile"...awesome, right !! Shit, I wouldn't be shocked if he pulled out a drumstick from his bunker coat on the way !! False alarm, as usual. Fuckin' gamblers ! And we have a big university here, so here comes the 2am pull-stations !! Well, when it's freezing cold, snowing, those fuks will stand outside til I see hard nipples on the young ladies !! Anyways, back to the shit...now, we have these tiny cubicles for our beds and dresser. A curtain pulled shut is mandatory. Damn, I always looked forward to the mid-night boner when I got up and the girl beside me stared :-)

Thanks for everything boss !! 40 years is a damn long time when you're faced with the devil on a daily basis !! And to not bite it, good job. I wish I made it to half of that. I made 7 years, way too short. A lady dangled her 8 yr old girl out the 3rd floor window, and I laddered up to grab her, but Mom couldn't wait, and dropped her into my right arm, tearing the shit out of my right tendon that runs from my bicep to my shoulder. Two pins and a ton of therapy later, I can function. But the days of eating smoke are over. I even proposed to drive, but it was all or nothing. So, here I sit, 44 yrs old, and a career over. Like Captain Morris said, at least we got to do it. Peace.

I had the pleasure of learning from Capt Morris out at FDIC. I got to talk to him afterwards and he asked me if I liked forcing doors. When I said yes his response was simply so do I. His kids are also successful in the FDNY so that has to be one proud dad as well. Capt the department will surely miss you and congrats on your retirement.

Hey Frank, don't sell yourself short brother !! I chose firefighting over police work because I wasn't cut out to do your job. I have a short fuse. We wait until police clear a scene before we go in if there's a lunatic involved. That says something about the boys in blue. Question : and if you can't answer, I understand :-) Do you like working with a female ? Do you think females should be allowed to work in Emergency Services, if so which one (police, fire,EMS) ? I believe they could work in EMS, and that's it ! Other than that, 9-1-1 dispatcher. I won't apologize. They are built differently. Different thought processes. Their bodies go thru changes males don't. I was partnered up with a female at a house fire. Chief ordered us to go up to 2nd floor, and toss couch out the window. I picked up my end and rested it on the window sill. She couldn't budge hers. So, I went around and did hers. I weigh 200 LBS full bunker gear with SCBA. No way was she lifting, and carrying, my ass out of a fire. And that may lead to leaving my family without a Husband and a Dad. No way is that happening, I don't care .Thanks.

Aaron Michael i went through the academy with 4 girls in our class, 1 got dropped about half way and the other 3 failed multiple practicals.. the best was when we were doing search and rescue and the 1 female freaked out, they had to bring her out with the TIC, roof ladders all of them failed, none of them were strong enough to raise the ladder up.. first day of forcible entry i was partnered with a female, i was the halligan guy, she struck the halligan with the blade side of the axe lmao, not saying every female is like this but from my experience i just know i wouldn’t want 1 by my side when shit hits the fan.
