4:44 there are at least 5 firefighters on the roof, next to the flames and none of them has a water hose to extinguish, these are things I will never understand... are they waiting for the fire to go out by itself?
@RaimoLehtinen
@RaimoLehtinen 2 жыл бұрын
You are right ...besides the water cannon at the end of the ladder did nothing. They might have waited for the order even though the flames were already spreading on the roof of the neighbor's house before their eyes. The work of firefighters does not seem effective?????
@user-peach408
@user-peach408 10 ай бұрын
They may have been on the roof for opening ventilation of roof. Each firefighter has a specific job. All are not there to use a hose. Go to your local fire station and they will be glad to explain their different jobs and how it coordinates to put out the fire.

Those five guys are the roof men from the ladder companies. Their job up there is to cut holes in the roof in order to let heat and smoke escape the building. They don’t carry hose lines. If you notice, one of the guys had a two and a half gallon fire extinguisher that he was using to keep the flames away from the guy cutting the roof.

So interesting to hear the coms between Command and the guys. Good back and forth. It made me think of 9/11: imagine you're in the command sector and you radio out to various units and you hear....nothing. You keep at trying to raise them and you hear...nothing. Over and over. I cannot imagine the trauma as you realize you never will get an answer.

@@azul8811 That depends on the building size. Normally they operate from the ladder bucket. To open roofs for venting you can remove the ceramic shingles with a hook. Industrial buildinge with other rooftiles they do it on the roof in safe distanz from the flames.

@@almostsk8terjamie Yes, you are right, this is indeed a tough job! But in the US as well as in Germany, it's one of the jobs society appreciates the most, because people do know that firemen constantly put their own health at risk to save others. As to you, I believe modern medical care & surgery will put you back on your feet again, what may have not been the case some 30 years ago. Seemingly, there are many jobs out there which in the long run have negative effects on one's body. Did you know that even professional musicians who had spent 25 years in the pit suffer from degradations of the spine, hearing loss, and other ailments? Professional football players have to quit at 30 because of multiple injuries. What I want to say here is that you are not alone; there are countless jobs - I would say almost all - that have some kind of long - term effect on us, no matter what we have done! But when you are young, you want that job by pushing aside any aspects that could count against it. All the best, kind regards! Please stay safe & healthy!

@@jurgenkuhlmann9194 German society appreciates their fire fighters? That is rediculous, to be honest. In the US for sure but certainly not in Germany. Not anymore. Thanks to the far left/green political direction that Germany is following the last 20 years almost every police man, every fire fighters or medic knows that it is everything but funny anymore. They are constantly threatened and too often even attacked and by e.g. refugees and criminals during their shifts. This is daily business in Germany and the result of a tolarance drunken political leadership that always puts migrants above their own executive. In addition, all fire fighters and cops are extremely poorly equipped and paid even less.

@@muskete8992 Well, I assume that firefighters have some sort of reputation in Germany. This far left / green political direction is something I do not follow and totally disagree with for 30 years! 20/20 hindsight. These are 80 year old building built during a time where fire resistant design and sprinkler systems were unheard of and land was somewhat cheap. @@ph11p3540 -- Sadly these days way too many (apartment) buildings (even high-end ones) are built like crap. Concrete first floor (lobby/retail), concrete elevator shafts, parking garages (if present); but residential floors are cheap, wooden, stick-built 3-5 stories tall. Keep watching fire videos you will learn and be able to watch in silence and know what they are doing and why. Just remember it's a fight. And sometimes the fire wins what I mean by that is there are fires so big you can't put them out they have to burn themselves out. Look up a fire in Rockford IL and oil plant they could only contain.

I can't say enough about the courage and vital benefit these fire fighters are too society . What makes me so f**ing angry is the "banksters" and filthy rich don't pay a 50th of the taxes they should pay to give these heros good pay, more equipment, more safety equipment et cetera . These bastards on wall street are probably trying to rip off these guys pension funds as i type !!!!

It means they are sending more companies to the scene due to numerous phone calls to 911 by citizens.
@chrisc2683
@chrisc2683 4 ай бұрын
I know you asked this question about 2 years ago but here is your answer. Box loaded up due to calls means that because the 911 dispatchers are receiving numerous/many calls from citizens reporting a fire, that here is a high likelihood of there not only being an actual fire but that the fire is probably a big one since so many people are calling. So the dispatchers take it upon themselves to send out extra units to the fire right away as opposed to waiting for a chief to get on scene and request the extra units. Hope it makes sense.

Good video. Bad use of resources. TL 146 could have contained or controlled extensions in its field of attack but they were useless for the first 7 minutes. So was this a Mayday? Or an Emergency? We use Mayday for trap, injured, lost members not wall collapse. I stopped watching after 8 minutes.

@alexanderpasnl

I don't know what you have been watching of course and perhaps you mean something totally different, but I do know they need to be absolutely 1000% sure there is no one left inside the buildings before putting water on the flames otherwise any living soul inside will get boiled to death. That is the reason you often see crews ready with hoses on the street but waiting. They are mostly not waiting on water but on the order.

Not all water use on fire is meant to extinguish it. I found out sprays / mists / light streams are usually there to cool ambient air. This really helps to keep shooting flames from rising up. That allows fighters to stand in that heat without sweating balls and feeling like they should pass out. (Keeps their gear from melting too.) On a roof like that, it was described to me it's like wearing a fur coat outside when the weather is 110 degrees F, or 33 C. Cooling yourself off 20 degrees F is a godsend of relief.
@mongolikechewchew2475

Another use for the water,once the fire is knocked down,if using a smooth bore knob, crack it open half way and aim out a window, this helps ventilate the room ur in of smoke and heat. If using a fog knob, use the fog pattern. As far as the canman on the roof,as has been said,he was just protecting the roof man as he vents the roof.
