This is truly breathtaking. It amazes me how much I think, or assume I “know” what *I* would do in such a situation, which is a essentially a completely uneducated bunch of dreamlike B.S., and what these pro’s are actually DOING to control what looks like a very very big, serious, dangerous, and difficult fire. I’ve heard these guys live for this kind of challenge, and I think I understand that…But I’ll never really, truly understand putting my own life at risk for others I don’t know, like these guys do. The bravery, the professionalism, the “get it done” attitude, mixed with, what I assume is a bit of “crazy”, is to be admired and respected, big time. Thanks, FDNY. Truly breathtaking stuff here. Please stay safe out there. God speed.

New York Fire Dept is a very traditional organization. Alot of the Firefighters do not where SCBA when they should maybe there just be hard core and like being a smoke eater. With the amount of Firefighters called to respond to this fire there is absolutely no reason not to protect themselves. There is plenty of relief units there to rotate personal out of the smoke and also they probably have the best air resupply unit in the country. So get your 20min of good air get out grab a full bottle and jump right back in. That what relief is about air and getting people rehydrated and rest. This makes sense in my opinion.
@erickeenan7562
@erickeenan7562 2 жыл бұрын
I had the pleasure of getting randomly paired up with a NY fireman playing golf in FL. I am a FF in the Washington. We are to have SCBA on whenever there is a risk of smoke going in our lungs, even for brief moments. We have backup bottles galore and trucks to fill them if those run out. I asked him why they don't wear them when they should. It is a culture. It will kill many of them. He said their policy is (or was at the time), when your bottle goes empty, you are done on the fire...period. And they don't want to be made fun of for sitting out a firefight. It is an insane practice. The cancer risk is off the charts if they don't protect their lungs. I just don't get it.
@jhamil4622
@jhamil4622 2 жыл бұрын
Smoke banked down to the street. So your first due engine on the fire floor waiting for water. Now you have to push through five rooms of fire. Are you telling me you have to mask up in the street? By the time you make the first room you’ll be out of air. Now what ! Your on the 5 Th floor with the truck coming in behind you. Ya gotta plow through them. Now your out in the hall way. Ya gotta get through second due engine and truck. Square coming up and rescue. Oh yeah! Ya just jump back down to the street. Find your rig . Change tank . Jump right back in. Masking up as soon as you smell smoke ain’t gonna make it in NYC

@@jhamil4622 Stupid answer, just when you see the zukünftiken cancer deaths in the video on the roof, that is, with all due respect, brainless and an example of how not to do it, unless you want to die at 50, but for that you were then 30 years a great guy, great!
@davidlenzi3551
@davidlenzi3551 Жыл бұрын
@@jhamil4622 That sort of thinking is just wrong first spare bottles do not need to be changed out in minutes I have worn a full bottle for up to 45 minutes. Spare bottles can and are carried on apparatus that is situated on the fire ground with easy access to by firefighters and can be changed out during rehab when crews are changed out. At 6:46 is the sound of a low air warning if that happens the firefighter is required to exit the structure and have the bottle changed out. There is absolutely nothing wrong with following the NFPA regulations. Cancer is not at all any fun. I have a friend in my building who is dying from primary site (lung) cancer. He is in lots of pain and wasting away because of the cancer.

@@davidlenzi3551 If you are not from the region you cannot understand this thinking. It is just one example of the grit and determination and yes maybe stupidity that makes NYC and the region what it is. These are men that simply love the job and quite frankly live to work not the other way around. Also FCNY has units that do nothing but refill bottles there is basically and endless supply.

Look at that. _Once again_ , guys are f'n around for over 30 minutes trying to fight from inside, and yet the fire gets worse- then they finally put 2 bucket hoses on it from the outside and it's considerably better in less than 5 minutes. And on smaller structures this would apply even more.

How much oxygen do the firefighters have or how long does it last? I assume they rotate them when it is getting low with another team as you could not possibly breathe those fumes however does each firefighter need to monitor or is it fed back to command?
@Cobalt135
@Cobalt135 2 жыл бұрын
15 to 20 minutes of air depending on your pace of breathing due to workload and such. There is an alarm on the SCBA that goes off when low air.

Was he using a drone to monitor his guys and the fire? Can anyone confirm that…
@FDNYResponseVideos
@FDNYResponseVideos 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. The department now has a drone unit called the “command tactical unit”. Their purpose is to use drones to obtain aerial shots of the fire building & provide thermal imaging from above to give the IC a better picture of the entire scene. After all, you can’t see everything from the street.

Now the fire has progressed massive delay because of the statement we can get the third-floor you’ve had men trapped I collapse, attempting to get man out in the mayday situation now and Fire is just rolling. Can you hit it 20 minutes ago as deputy said this wouldn’t be happening. Where is your lack of chain of command what happened to city of New York fire?

The ratio of the forces used is negative. Most of them stand around and the operation room is too crowded. But the USA is unfortunately outdated in terms of military service. No smoke vent, so you have to climb over the roof. Something like this is better and safer in Germany. Helmets from the 1900s

What don’t the members understand when the chief says back out there’s no argument no discussion no we can get it or you can get yourself killed just like that ceiling that went out in the stairwell. He previously ordered you out 10 minutes past November working out at what difference does it make wagon tower ladder up to the third fourth and fifth floor or the fourth and fifth floor my brothers lives are more important than stupid. Happy chief wear their asses out
