Not every guitar player wants to sit and write incredibly complex material whether he wants to or not. He is in a B-A-N-D not a SOLO act. He writes riffs for a synth, drums, bass, other guitar, and vocals to play/sing over. Surfing with the alien? NO LYRICS! Some of the simplest riffs ever have been dubbed the greatest riffs ever conceived. Enter sandman, Smoke on the water, Iron man, Master of Puppets. I can do technical stuff, I can do 3 chord stuff. I just dont understand this "Its so simple he sucks" shit. Different bands do different things. Its asenine.

FF have a lot of similarities with nu metal because they were one of the bands that really influenced that scene, especially in the late 90's. even on soul of a new machine they were playing more simplistic groovy stuff than most other acts in the genre. scapegoat is the quintessential nu metal riff, look at blind by korn or loco by coal chamber to see the similarities. however, when most people think of nu metal they think of rap metal so if you use that definition, FF are in no way nu metal.

It's an epic song =) Fear factory's one of the best metal bands in thw world and Burton was the first singer ever who combined clear singing with hard growling. Respsect for that experiment!

I heard a gossip that they tuned to A standard for 7 strings (ADGCFAD). but I took my downtuned Ibanez (BEADF#B) and the thickest B strings are similliar in tune. In case of tunings: standard tuning is also used currently by Cazares, but with 2 thick strings adde, F# and B#, they just expand tuning for 10 semitones under E.

well bro... yes i always appreciate everyone that want to have good skill on playing guitar. but remember, music is not about how good your skill is... but about how cool you made a music. music is an art... not a math that brings you a Prof. title.. so... whether it is a drop something, or normal tune, you have to produce a really col sound. E normal tune is ok, and dropping tune, where the gauge is ussually gained, is ok too. and it depends on individual taste which sound you want..

Don't get how Dino is so underrated as a metal guitarist. Yes... He does not go for the pyrotechnics on the higher strings.. But his rythm playing is insanely tight, and he has some serious monster riffs.

This is why Christian was the best bass player for FF. Ha can play guitar really well, and can pick as fast a Dino does. So he could keep up right along with Dino. No one else could since. Plus he writes awesome riffs as well. They need him back on bass. And Ray back on drums. I agree with the whole Industrialist thing. I was really excited for that album but when i heard it i was kinda let down. It also sounded like to me a lot of filler. Thats actually the first thing i thought when i heard it

@brad0021 imo they have a similar level, but Dino was more of the staccato riffing, a lot of downpicking and more tight, but Chris was more melodic, but the sound of FF was build on Dino his style

@suoived no, im not. my guitar is two whole steps down to play In Flames songs, and it sounds good with this song, seeing as the low note he plays is a C, not a B, which is why he has the power chord on the 1st fret on his B string... so no, im not kidding, its easier that buying a 7-string, its the same thing playingwise

@WhatWillBecome1 Christain has always played guitar, he just played bass for FF when he joined. He didnt learn to write from Dino, this is the FF's style and he just keep the theme. Dino didnt write all the songs either, all the other dudes wrote too.

Yeah, uh, he plays alot in "drop" A (e-e+ lower 5th). I know people who tune their 7s to drop B (F#-F#+ lower fifth). In this video he is in B standard.

finally I could vote You down:) Therefore listen to those band You like and do not EVER use arguments reffering to form of body - Dino is maybe huge, but it is in his nature, and he still plays good. And do You know what is the reason for using 7 and 8 strings? Then see the Ibanez RG2228 demo video with Dino, where he says that it allows him to go really low and eventually swap to solos in high. Tune a 6-string guitar down to B or A. Omitt the floppy strings, and see the change of pitch.
