I once had a six months class in operational psychology at a university. The teacher asked us to describe fear. Since I've previously (about a year before that) had a true anxiety/panic attack where I thought I was going to die, I raised my hand in class. The teacher chose me, and I answered, in a class of 200 people: ''I'd rather break both my legs with a hammer than experiencing that again'', and he said, good. You're one of those who know.

@@jellyfishi_ I agree with you completely, but you're wasting your time. Racists cling to their ignorance as though it's gold bars. They do not ever want to think differently, because change is their most absolute fear. Anyone who changes a single opinion in a group of racists is immediately branded a traitor, because of their refusal to learn. Their entire existence is a house of cards that they must hold together at all costs, insisting that it's stronger than steel...when every breeze of intelligent thought threatens their fragile life. People who are intelligent, and open to new information know that they cannot be threatened by it. Whatever it is, it will usually prove to be an exciting opportunity for new vistas. A racist is the flat earther of humankind, unwilling out of fear to believe there is anything out there that will not threaten them...fear makes them brutes and bullies, only fear causes hate and violence.

When I was a child I experienced a very traumatic event for me. After it was over and I was safe. I got really sick. Stayed sick for about a month. I slept a lot and didn't eat or drink much. When I was awake I felt nauseous. Professionals told my mother and I that it was fear that had me sick. They suggested I start drinking hot black coffee. So when I was awake my mother would have me drink that. Eventually I did get better. As I am here to tell the tale. I don't remember much (Dissociative Amnesia due to childhood Truama) but I do remember how it felt to finally feel good enough to go outside and feel the fresh air.

We have evolved to have trauma locked into the part of our brains that controls our physical, as well as our intellectual reactions. Because of this, our bodies react to a memory of trauma in a faster way than we can think about it. We have evolved to have the fastest possible instinctive and life saving effect to avoid death, which makes it extremely difficult for person with CPTSD to overcome their trauma with counseling alone. The trauma is literally part of their muscle memory and will react without the brain. There are some great books on using somatic touch to retrain muscle memory...google somatic touch, it's very interesting.

I’ve somehow found a way to minimize fear. When you get so depressed and have severe anxiety just for no reason, well you have multiple desires to be free of it all. So you give up hope. You lose the fear of dying, and see it more of a way out. As many Addicts and alcoholics say, “A permanent solution to a temporary problem” but after so very many years, you just can’t justify going on. And believe me, losing all hope is absolute freedom. So you don’t really find yourself afraid of much. For instance, I’m far more fearful to get evicted than hit by a speeding car. It doesn’t make sense unless you’ve lived it.

I suffered from severe PTSD and would not wish that torture upon anyone. I’ve undergone a lot of therapy and I can say that now, I am not ever going to be the same, I have learned to conquer the hell and the sheer terror that was existing in a world which was beyond words, but I am truly proud to have got to here, and I will always have hope that I will be able to do anything else in my future that I never thought I could. In essence, I learnt so much about myself, and despite it being a place of extended existence which still leaves me without words to explain the reality of living in such fear, it made me into someone else whom I could never have become if not for it. It was the most painful place I cannot imagine being within now, but after recovering from extensive treatment and working dedicated to survival through it, I never ever have had a more freeing experience afterwards which made me humble and in such gratitude for the simplest of life’s moments. I hope anyone whom maybe struggling with fear, in any kind, finds the help they need and can overcome the horror it may be, to see a new day past the present.

I like how the only phobia I actually have is the most spoken of in this video. I hate diving into deep water. I've gotten used to it, going with a small boat every summer to a 25 meter dark spot on a lake, filled with a lot of sea life on the bottom and with a bunch of fish. It was frightening 3-4 years ago. Now it's a bit better. I can freely swim around and not be tantalized by a bad feeling. Although whenever I dive closer to the bottom, I get the fear again, as if some kind of monster will surround me and start to tear me to peaces and I have to swim back up immediately. I also had a phobia of heights when I was younger, but I managed to overcome it with excessive hiking somehow. I have to beat this phobia and I will finally be free of chronic fear once and for all...

This is a pretty good video but the fear caused by anxiety can be much more than mild. My anxiety gets so bad that I have to go to the hospital and become sedated to get through it. I'll lose feeling in my limbs, my heart will race at dangerous speeds, blood pressure will be hypertensive, and it legitimately feels like you're dying. I've been hospitalized 4 times in the past month due to anxiety. Mild fear is when you walk up to a ledge and you're afraid of heights, or look over the side of a ship when you're in the ocean and fear the water, what I feel is literally like I am dying over and over again.

Your title is spot on,i was born with a low resting heart rate so i react to stressful/fearfull situations much differently than everyone i know, for a long time those close to me would joke that i was a psychopath all because i don't experience or react to dangerous or fearful stimulus like they do. I do most definitely feel fear i just don't show it outwardly so much which makes me great in a high stress situation cause i don't panic but its also a double edged sword as im also more inclined to seek out or subject myself to dangerous or high adrenaline predicaments, add escalating desensitization to the mix & this behavior becomes a detrimental proclivity if not kept in check,so yeah normal, healthy fear is good...it keeps you alive.

This kind of explains why om so terrified of wasps, as I was stung as a child in my shin and was terrified and in pain. And I haven't been able to get over it since even if I've only been stung once more in 20 years time... I always wondered why I was still so afraid and find it so hard to control myself around wasps. As such...likened to somebody strolling through savana. They heard a light shush in a bush behind them. One fearing for possible threat went away as soon as possible. The other one, feeling cocky tried to check the bush with a branch. The 1st scenario has a good chance he will survive whether its real or not...granted their might be some browny bricks that laid bare. 2nd scenario gives a 50/50 chance that he either satisfied his curiosity or become a processed meat.

Interesting fact. While psychopaths do feel fear, sometimes more intensely then others, when they are around people who are afraid, they become calmer and more collected. While to others fear is contagious, for psychopaths, fear is like a weed without psychedelic effect, so you can say that phrase "I can smell your fear" is quite literal:)
