Whilst I've been learning, anxiety videos have been very helpful, but I've also picked learned a lot from your driving videos. So I'd really like to see more driving please. Especially clutch control and hill starts in a petrol car after being used to a diesel.

I had a bad mushroom trip in my 20’s that led me to start having panic attacks. Then I became afraid of having a panic attack while I was driving. Fear of losing control while driving. This is what started my driving anxiety. I no longer get panic attacks, however the driving anxiety always remained. 13 years later. Really ready to overcome this!

That's what I do and it works well. I think back to times I've been in tricky situations and how what I have now is far better. It's all about perception.

Why do these emotions manifest through driving? Or, is this just one of the pathways they manifest?

I just got into my first car accident a couple of months ago, my car was totaled and ever since then I’ve only driven a handful of times. I have such bad anxiety and fear of other peoples driving, even when im in the passenger seat I am always scared to be in another car accident 😭
@1stdrive17 күн бұрын
That can just be because of the obvious reason that you're thinking of the crash when you drive. If that's the case then this video can fix it in 20 minutes kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJ7JYaCweb2ni5Y. What often happens though is that experience ties in with other, older problems and more work is needed on those things.

Today I failed my test 4 times. I am a good driver I know how to drive, I've been driving for the last 2 years with my partner car. But as soon as I get to DVSA on my driving test day, that's it I completely transform, my brain switches its self and I get nervous, anxious, I get moments zooming out when I'm with the examiner, but if I drive alone or with my partner absolutely perfectly fine and 100% focused. I dont really know what to do..

I’ve lost hope that I will ever be able to drive. I’ve been anxious around cars as long as I can remember- riding in them, or walking on the street next to them. Got in a crash where airbags deployed wall my brother was driving when I was 13 and since then have always flinched and gotten panicky riding in a car. First time I ever actually drove a car I began panicking and crashed into a sign while attempting to turn into a parking lot to switch off with my dad. Airbags went off as well. Flinching and anxiety around cars became and has remained significantly worse since then. My family and myself haven’t trusted me to get behind the wheel of a car since then. I don’t know what to do. I just don’t think I’m built for the modern day to by honest.

I have panic attacks with open spaces and bridges while driving or being a passenger. I have panic disorder outside of driving that sometimes acts up. So I had panic attacks in cars while in open spaces so my mind thinks theyre a threat. I literally have never had a fear of driving or open spaces. It's mainly a fear of having a panic while driving which is triggered by open spaces,bridges, and high elevation mountain driving. Which has put me at a disadvantage because I live in a area that has plenty of that type of driving

I have anxiety when I got into a bad car accidnet years ago up a hill and i got stuck and couldnt move my car or go anywhere (non drive able) its been 9 yrs since i driven up a hill and i always find an excuse or avoid to do so. Im very traumatized by the accident and would like to slowly trust myself to get over this fear/anxiety.

My dad yelled at me so badly it was one of the most traumatic experiences I ever went through I went in excited and confident and now I have major driving anxiety I hate him so much.
@1stdriveАй бұрын
What happens if you remove or avoid the trigger? If you avoid driving anxiety by not driving, two things can happen: 1) Your anxiety can move somewhere else. This isn't my theory, it's what hundreds of people I've worked with have told me. Having anxiety is like having pressure inside you and if you don't give it an outlet (like driving) it'll find another way out. Your driving won't be a problem because you're no longer driving but now it may come out when you're a passenger, flying, in busy shops etc. Avoiding the trigger is not a solution. Some people think automatic cars or self-driving cars will help but they won't because driving anxiety has nothing to do with driving and cars. 2) You'll have to give up driving which can cause various issues. You may not be able to take public transport depending on where you live and driving often can't be avoided in some jobs. An electrician isn't going to get the bus carrying all their tools! Giving up driving sometimes brings on a whole new range of problems like feeling a failure, spending more time travelling and having to make excuses as to why you don't drive. I mention this in other videos such as this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5KXepJ_iN6Bbsksi=UV0QevpTLiSZrt1y&t=365

@1stdriveАй бұрын
That's great. It doesn't guarantee passing a test unfortunately but once you start to make and live with those changes, the things holding you back from passing are reduced/removed and allow you a much better chance.

What triggered mine was self doubt brought on by a lifetime of untreated ADHD. I had confidence until my parents screamed at me any time I made a mistake. (Not big things like running a stop sign, more like not being perfectly centered in a lane or going too slow.) Then I’d over correct myself and get anxious, which made things worse. I’d follow all the “anti anxiety” tricks but would still be making dumb errors the moment I started to relax and not be anxious. I’m still terrified I’ll zone out from overstimulation and cause an accident or get shot by an aggressive driver because made another unknown error.

I'm going through exactly the same thing. I got diagnosed with autism and adhd when I was 28 (I'm 31 now) and I feel that it affects everything. I constantly second guess myself and find it so hard to focus on everything at the same time. I find it all so stressful that by the time I finish driving I'm absolutely exhausted.
@silentfox1738Ай бұрын
i am a new driver. i believe driving is stressful for me because of lack of solo practice, which has been largely out of my control. the only car i have is a mustang but its old and its a manual. im still learning to drive it, and its the only car ive been able to drive in the past 6 months. when im away at school, i dont need or have a car because school is within walking distance. i dont know what would make me feel confident driving, aside from the practice which ive been unable to get.

@1stdriveАй бұрын
This is why I say driving anxiety has nothing to do with driving. The attack will certainly play a part but there will be other things that came before that which have grown into anxiety.
