It’s a flop because he makes clothes for millionaires now. He’s claiming his prices are meant for people to keep them, yet anyone who can even afford his shit is not gonna keep wearing it. People with millionaire money (Jerry’s customers now) wear what’s new every season, they aren’t going to keep wearing your 8th collection for years to come. He’s completely out of touch with reality.

Especially because trends keep changing
@ptzcf43206 ай бұрын
Exactly, trends keep changing among millionaires....They can easily move to other brands/styles. And for the people who want to keep a few good items in their closet, why don't they choose Zegna instead? Em has even a 70%/80% discount in outlets... I just can`t find a reason for not buying Zegna but turns to FOG (nowadays)
@Chanelo125796 ай бұрын
Big problem is pricing. It’s why the athletics line is doing terribly. Wouldn’t be surprised if Adidas ends the deal prematurely. Line is just sitting hard for almost all items. Not a good look

The clip with the Purpose Tour merch really made me reminisce to a time when I related to FOG the most. The appreciation for his craftsmanship and colour selection is still there but I realize I’m not the target consumer for a lot of these newer pieces/drops.

Yeah, a lot of people could give the easy answer and say "Well, there's the Essentials line", which there is...And I feel even then, the Essentials sort of feel like more of an afterthought than before. That being said, I know that he's been trying to experiment a little more with colors and some other things, but the attention to detail and love isn't quite there...Especially since the quality has been extremely hit or miss now.
@donskidarko6 ай бұрын
I totally agree with you, I miss the elements of the 4th to 6th collection. There were more colors and different fabrics/materials used. I wish he could've retained some of those aesthetics and just changed the silhouette like with the 7th and 8th. I think Jerry's taste has matured through the years, but he has to think of how to adapt and fuze the elements from his previous ones that actually put him where he is now.

As much I wanna go for FOG, we can’t relate nowadays with those horrendous prices. Even athletics are way pricey 😭

Sixth Collection and the birth of the Nike collab was the pinnacle of FOG for me. I still recall watching the promo lookbook film a dozen times with 100 Billion X and seeing the fans go wild when J stepped out from his pickup in those FOG1s....good times. I agree this 8C is difficult to relate to and the only piece that I liked is the leather shell bag.

I’m older and was collecting sneakers and various urban trends since the early 90’s. I’m happy to see the new generation is really up on their gear and fashions, into quality and details. Bc back then most ppl. just grab whatever and rocked it and didn’t care much on quality or even looking at stitching. When the sneaker craze just started to hit when many were trying to get the new sneaks were hitting like the OG AM 95 and 97, I was buying doubles and triples in my size. Not really to flip, but just to have a back up pair. When ppl. Found that out about me, everyone thought I was crazy and never heard anyone doing that. Partly bc for many, money was tight to buy double and most rather buy a different pair when they had money next. Back then when shoes hit stores, the only ppl. buying multiples were the Japanese. They would clean out the stores and take them back to Japan and resell them. So it helped to gauge trend by watching what the Japanese were buying in the US and reading those Japanese fashion magazines. So the Japanese were the ones that help start this collecting and even tho it’s finally hit here in the US, this was going on in Japan since the early 90’s. That’s why they have those clothing shop all over Japan that has everything in just one store. And also with vintage mid century furniture, Anyway, sorry for being off topic and these thoughts came to me while watching this video. and realized this level of fashion and style has taken a long time to get here. Was doing it before many were even born yet. Thanks

I disagree with a lot of points you made in this video but primarily on the direction of the brand. To put it plainly, I think the value in creating luxury street wear pieces has been a dying trend in the last 5 years so him pivoting doesn’t seem to out of the ordinary as it’s where the luxury market seems to be heading. Of course it could be argued that he’s somewhat “abandoning” his niche but I’d say he’s pivoting towards tastes that are more far reaching and broad. I agree I think the pricing is steep for the newer collection but at the same time, especially in this age of hyper consumerism I think making higher quality pieces that can last and be worn for more than a season is a better ideas than making the same regurgitated silhouettes of former collections. I guess it’s really on his current customers if they choose to follow after him or not.

I like the new look. I prefer 7th collection and even Eternal over 8th, however, a designer needs to always evolve and mature as they release more collections. Jerry is still new (relatively) in the fashion industry compared to these other designers he’s been in competition with. Just look at Rick Owens, he started his eponymous label in 1994 and it looks MUCH different now. You can see some similar details, but it takes time for a designer to come into their own. Just appreciate the designs for what they are and if you don’t, they’re plenty of more designers to be inspired by 👍🏽

FOG peaked with 4th, 5th & 6th .. Jerry has completely left that genre of clothing his collections are meh now. Too bad Americans don't have access to Tokyo's fashion, I purchase items from United Arrows and many unique shops in the alleys of Harajuku who created the FOG look of oversized clothing, tracks pants etc and they use super quality materials for a fraction of the FOG price. I'll bing shop 2nd hand pieces from FOG 5th & 6th collection when I visit the US,, passing on everything new.

I think, like most brands, you try to evolve your brand because you, as a designer, might not necessarily like where your brand is heading, so as a creative, you want to reinvent yourself and who your audience will grow as well jerry seems like he is heading more towards the quite luxury approach like the row Nad like the row prices astronomical so most of the past customer base is not buying this well not at full price.

Everyone is saying the price but i think it’s just boring plus the brand name has no weight, if im chilling with the boys they gonna clown you for wearing “adidas Yeezy knock offs” to flashy to wear casually but not a known enough brand recognition to wear as a flex, and sure you can say “well name brand doesnt matter” and if thats the case you been suckered because if you dont care for the brand, for that price you can get something better for cheaper. I think saying its price is a coping mechanism,
