Fearless Female Soldiers Are Transforming Ukraine’s Military for the Better

Historically, men have dominated the Ukrainian military. But positive changes in gender equality began to appear after the start of Russia’s war in eastern Ukraine. Since 2014, more women have been joining the fight. Currently, there are nearly 24,000 women serving in the armed forces and at least 55,600 working in the military. The efforts of Ukrainian women to carve out a place for themselves and change perceptions has not gone unnoticed.

I salute the Ukrainians for their courage to fight Russians despite overwhelming odds. Russians thought that they will overpowered Ukrain within 48 hours but inspite of their best efforts they cannot conquer Ukrain even after 44 days. Hatts off to the Ukrainians. This is a good lesson to people of other countries that however weak a country might be a spirited and determined will of the people to fight for their own motherland will save them from foreign domination.

I will pray for the female soldier heroes, for their overall safety (just as we pray for all Ukraine fighters). During the Chechen conflict, a female sniper was sniping the hell out of a Russian unit. Russians captured her alive, backed up four trucks in four compass directions, tied a limb to each, and drew her in quarters. The Russian unit’s leader expressed mild regret, then said, “But the men needed it.” 🙏🏼🇺🇦

Its common enough captured snipers are killed, sometimes in gruesome ways. that female sniper may by happy she "just" got seared in the classical way (in the old good days it was 4 horses). What she probably expected was to be raped by them all, before some sort of gruesome killing, say by being set upon a pole. Its not nice, but this is facts of life.

So long as they are capable of performing all aspects of their jobs (I'm not a service member so I don't know what this would be) it is fine. There shouldn't be any needless barriers blocking anyone from serving in the military. However, if you sacrifice operational capability for the sake of stats then you have a problem. A bright, healthy, fit woman could be just as valuable asset and a soldier as any man could be. And it seems to me, in the future it will be reasonable for Ukraine to introduce obligatory military service extended to women too, as it is in Israel, if it is going to have to exist as a neighbor of Russia.

I would have been pro-Ukrainian in this war, as Putin's invasion is an illegal war of choice. Since 24 Feb, I pay more attention to that region of the world. Women aren`t children who must be protected especially, they are adults as men. And to make a baby there are also men needed as you surely know. At the moment there are hundreds of thousands of men slaughering each other, but nobody talks like "But they must stay alive! They must reproduce!" So why talking like this about women? What the bible says about men and women has been written down by men who "owned" their women and daughters like donkeys, seed or slaves. Their religion was designed like "On top there is God, then there is Jesus, then come all human men - and down on the bottom there are: domestic animals, slaves, servants, the household and women. Those men had made their religious rules like they benefited from them, women were a kind of "household thing that serves, cares, works and reproduces" and were expected to be not as intelligent, not as strong, not as dignified as men. Their honor was to be an obedient wife or daughter. Those times are over. What russian soldiers do to ukrainian women and children must be stopped. Women have EVERY RIGHT to fight for themselves, their children, their parents, friends and men - the same as men also are allowed to fight for themselves, their women, their families. Today it does not matter anymore what men want a woman to do or for what purpose they want her to be "used". Today a woman decides for herself, what seems important to her, what she wants to do with her life or what she wants to do for herself, her people and her country. There are more and more ukrainian girls pregnant by russian soldiers now, they are between 11 and 14 years old, traumatized and pregnant. If you do not want russian soldiers to be the brutal "fathers" of the next ukrainian generation: LET THESE WOMEN FIGHT! I am quite sure you and your God would not be able to stop any ukrainian woman by telling her she should better prepair herself for having babies than caring for her life and the life of her people. No country, not home. No home, no babies. Seems you do not know much about women. Maybe you should talk to them in real (and not just in your religious community) instead of asking what the bible says about women. Stop telling women what their task would be in society. It doesn`t work with a modern woman, she can do or be whatever she finds right for herself and her life. She knows much better than you or any God when it`s time for her to fight fort her freedom, life and country - or having a baby. Respect for these women`s choice to fight? No, you have not enough respect when you come with your "hightest power" and tell women what God says would be their place. Maybe "protecting women so they can have babies" has become a bit old fashioned today as a man`s "task". It`s because women meanwhile have found some more tasks for themselves.
