I was quite lucky to spend two weeks many years ago with Vangellis at his home in the south of Athens. He was one of the kindest, most wonderful people that I’ve ever met in my life. We spent hours with friends, talking late into the evening, and he did several “homestyle“ impromptu concerts, sitting at his keyboard in his living room. It is a time, I will never, never, never forget. Sorely missed and much love!

Did he ever have a protégé?
@manparrishstories Жыл бұрын
@@avatarinum hi… Yes, Vangellis actually did have protégé, but not in the way that you think. He often had classical students in Greece come by and transcribe, and orchestrate his music for preservation. When I spent two weeks there, he often had local musicians come in, have dinner, and after dinner, they would all sort of “jam“. I remember a singer being there who sang opera, a harp player, etc. He was very supportive of the local music community

Feeling a bit sad that the immortal Kirios Vaggelis cannot listen to this one any more. I'm currently sitting on Crete - the White Mountains backwards over here and the coast and seaside pretty much in front of me. I took a stroll down to the sea in the morning. The soundtrack of Vaggelis will always accompany us. Cheers to Mick who is one of the greatest interprets, translators, guys who just feel the vibe of the master. Big thanks going out from over here. Dietmar from Germany (bought myself a little house over here btw. cause the soundtrack of Vaggeli never ever left me alone). Come over here and join me having a sip of wine !

@@mik300z This sounds great and if I didn't know better I'd swear you were using a real CS-80.. What are you using to make those CS-80 type synth brass sounds? It looks like you are using the mod wheel to make those swells whereas Vangelis used the CS80's aftertouch. Also, at the very beginning, I also hear something that sounds like the 8' human voice preset of a Roland VP-330, Did you have samples of a VP330. That is a very unique and distinct sound and it sure sounds like a VP330..

@@mik300z I see a keyboard that looks similar to a VP330 but it seems to be an octave short.
@mik300z15 күн бұрын
@edcollins9377 hi Ed, yes , that is correct , I use the mod wheel to express the sound, which comes from my ESQ 1, in all the synths I've played in my life it is the closest to a CS80 in my opinion. If you ever buy one I would be happy to share the patch. And I use my behringer VC340 for the male voice, and strings. It is a clone of the original vp330 by Roland. Thanks for your interest my friend .

We miss Vangeli alot. He was more then unique. Humanity gets such artists maybe every 200-300 years. Don’t get me wrong, there are very fine musicians out there. He carried the Greek spirit with his soul, philosophy, science, art ,all embedded within the greatest power…love. Such a privilege that we lived in the same time-space. Fearless is amazing, no words how good you bring Vangeli’s music in your own way. Be unique Michael….

This started out with something that sounds like the human voice "ah" sound produced by a Roland VP-330. Then we hear that drum sound that reminds me of New Order. Finally, at 0:37 the epic, CS-80ish synth brass made its grand introduction and it hit me .... VANGELIS!
