Fearless Quilt-Making: Stitch 2 Quilts in a Weekend

I am making 2 super fast easy quilts in a weekend and you can too. All you need are 12 bandanas in your choice of colors and 12 fat quarters. I am using different techniques on both quilts so you not only end up with 2 quilts - you learn different techniques to add to your quilting wheelhouse.

Maybe you might want to make those quilts wider so if they turn over while holding onto the quilt they'll still be covered up. Especially when they grow older. ☺️

Me and 505 basting spray do not play nice in the sand box. Before I got my longarm I sandwiched a quilt on my kitchen floor…found out the hard way 505 and hard wood flooring do not go well together. Spent a half day removing the spray over…pretty sure I was in the dog house with hubby for a day or two. 😝🫣 your grandbabies are so adorable. Love the idea of the denim binding. I loved this so much! I have an embroidery machine and have contemplated embroidering blocks for a quilt as you go because I couldn't envision an entire quilt being quilted. I gotta try it now. I think I'll begin small at first. I have several baby quilt panels and coordinating fabric just wasting away in some tote somewhere 🙃

I use pool noodles to put my quilt sandwich together. Roll all three layers on top separate noodles. Stack and unroll as you spray baste. No fighting with wrinkles.

Love watching your program gram. I just finished your first bandana quilt. Very big and turned great. Lays flat, quilting nice to. Did the serpentine stitch . Made diamonds . Thank you for sharing that tutorial. I did change how I cut it out and sewed it together. But still like yours. Had so much fun making it and picking out all the bandana’s. So cool. Love your bandana idea! I do opposite, batting on the bottom and spray that, I avoid backing wrinkles that way and when that's complete I flip over so batting I'd on top again then spray and place quilt top. I also use 505 and QS Free Fuse powder without needle gum up from either but I leave everything sit overnight before I quilt. 😊

Yes, definitely interested in how to quilt with an embroidery machine. As a fairly new quilter who's not (yet) interested in sending projects off to a longarmer, and who does not (yet) want to invest in a longarm machine, an embroidery machine might be a more viable and versatile option.

I totally understand. I was at that point too when I found end to end quilting designs. At that time only one person I am aware of had them. Now there are lots of options. I will definitely do a tutorial. I am really pleased with the way my bandana quilt turned out.

Very nice 👍🏼 quilts thank you 🙏🏾 for sharing. Have you tried the school glue it’s awesome. I love basting my quilts with the glue it will wash out. I put my back on top of my backing and turn it over and then put my top on. The glue doesn’t stick to your needles. I do a video on using the glue on KZbin if you want to check it out. Tape chopsticks to the middle of your table making a corner. Fold you backing in half and half again wrong sides together. Put the corner in you chopsticks corner and unflold. Clamp to table and smooth out. Do same with your batting. Then fold your top in with right sides together put corner in you chopsticks corner by feeling for it. Clamp and smooth out. I pin base my sandwich together and have no wrinkles. Then slide to quilt one way so you can pin that part and continue. Hoop your quilt starting in the middle, remove pins within the hoop.

Love the bandana quilt. The shelves you were standing in front of showing fabric- are they large pieces of fabric and what do you wrap them on. It looks so organized and much easier to view what you have. I’m tired of containers by color and lifting them around to go through fabric! If you have a video on your shelves, let me know….thanks.

Have you tried using Elmer's School "Glue" for basting? No fumes, much greater control with no overspray. I use it for basting several.different projects and it's been great.

Another comment...I put my whole sandwich together, and attach my top to the batting first. Then I flip the whole thing over and use the 505 to adhere the back to the batting. Then I'm sure the back is smooth.
