Regardless of what people are saying, Jesy leaving a job that makes her unhappy but carrying on and finding something new that fulfils her is something many people struggle to do. Either out of fear of the unknown or of letting former colleagues/bosses down. The way that this became a conversation that discussed vulnerabilities and struggles with insecurity...this is amazing !! I absolutely adore it !! The way you both discussed personal struggles and coping mechanisms and the journey from the darkest of places to the light or a place where you are able to embrace the courage needed to fight and seek the light....this conversation is inspiring but also unique and singular and more people should be encouraged to have this conversation. Without social media we wouldn't hear what others/strangers thought about what we did or how we looked. We could do our own thing our way and if you didn't like it then don't watch it! I grew up in the 70's (yes I'm old) and I had the best time. I dressed the way I wanted, I never worried if I was to fat or to thin or if I was pretty enough for other eyes. Only mine mattered! Now I look I old pics and laugh at how I looked sometimes back then. But it's ok, because I was confident at the time I did it. It's breaks my heart now that people can be so mean and say so many hurtful things about someone they don't even know. I think they are just really jealous and pitiful. I still don't care what a stranger thinks of me, only the ones who know and love me matter to me. Motto to live by, You be you. and I'll be me.

This was absolutely wonderful Fern. I felt a real connection between the two of you and a sense that you both felt really seen and heard. It's insane that lovely women like you and Jesy get/got so much abuse, but I think a lot of it is them wanting to be seen and acknowledged, no matter how low they feel they need to go, to get that acknowledgement. I think what you did was clever, when you addressed that one person who was being mean. Speaking to them on a human level, with kindness, rather than counter attack, disarmed them. I've seen that happen a few times on Twitter. Not that it will always work, but as long as you stay classy you can keep your head held high. Thank you for this.

The fact that all of this is happening now, the amount of hate, bullying, death threats....makes me afraid of the future. Because if this is what's happening now, what will happen in the future?
@westonding89533 жыл бұрын
You know on a much smaller scale of thought, when I was younger, I was in a classical choir where we only sang “classical” or folk music. I can’t say I liked it and I definitely don’t think I have any “incredible memories”. Either way, when I left and found the world of pop music and culture, I realized how much I had missed and was mad with them and their views. Today, I just can’t bear the thought of excluding pop culture and music from someone’s experience. I don’t think this compares in any way to Jesy’s experience given that she does have some incredible memories that changed her life but it is something that came to mind.
@tomryann862 жыл бұрын
The fact that jesy says no one supported or cared about her is crazy. The last few years when her mental health was bad, her band mates more often times Leigh Anne of all people took over her parts. She even admitted in several interviews to being jealous of them at times. No one is perfect I'm sure in a group there are times when people get on your nerves but she also talked about her ideas and songs getting dubbed but each member said as a group each one of them experienced that. Let's also talk about the fact that in both their sides of the story they all agreed they tried to get her to stay and went to therapy to try to work things out. I find it hard to believe they didn't care about her at all.

And even if that was her mindset then that doesn't mean she cant change her mind when she sees wow that career can actually work for me. As the "fat" friend in my friend groups since Im younger I understand her so well with all the comparing. When I took a picture with people I was always sad because I wasnt as skinny as they where. Agreed. There’s definitely a self inflicted issue here. She feels victimized because in her view, everyone was out to get her, but in reality I believe she was the one out to get herself. Social media definitely didn’t help that at all, and amplified those doubts. Hopefully she’s able to realize that those dark thoughts don’t leave simply by changing your career/ temporary situation. There will always be negative words spoken online, regardless of solo or group status as well. The industry is the industry, She’ll realize that soon enough.

@@Renee77 totally agree and this may be the reason why she was blocking fans when they were asking if she can apologize to the offensive things she has said and done I think when she sees a comment that’s trying to educate her on why what she did is bad I think she sees it as an attack and blocks people right away

@galileodos43293 жыл бұрын
I think she was referring to how the girls loved being in a girl group and what that meant for them, more than what they struggle individually, although I also feel the narrative of victimism when she speaks about her experience, but it's a really hard topic to put into words and there's like no perfect way to express it so that it's completely understandable for everyone while also not portraying yourself as the only victim from all the negative aspects of the context, at least while you're still not quite over them. Maybe one day she'll need to see that knowing the root of the problem is key to a better understanding of how to find true healing.
@meagantrippleton14313 жыл бұрын
I agree. In my opinion it kinda seems she to an extent is blaming Leigh-Anne Jade and Perrie for her being unhappy in little mix and that’s not fair to them because they’ve probably had to deal with that kind of stuff too not just Jesy.

The thing is so many of us do have to get up each morning and go into work even when we feel like it's the last place on earth we want to be - due to it being stressful or boring or not getting on with colleagues or us having confidence issues etc. I know being in the public eye must bring a whole load more stress that most of us will never understand, but the truth is v few of us have control over our working-lives. We simply have to work to pay the bills. I do of course feel pleased for Jesy though as it's so clear she's much happier now and clearly being in a band just didn't suit her personality. I just hope her happiness continues. x

I really related to this. I felt that with my partners family. When my anxiety was really bad I would really go in on myself & cancel events & parties because I couldn’t face them at that time. But they would get so angry, upset at me & take it really personally. They could have had 10 parties & I would have gone to 9 but they would still pull me up on the one I didn’t go to. There was an element as well of not caring about what I was going through because it was an inconvenience to them, to their parties or them having fun. I can understand it’s hard for someone to understand if you’ve never experienced that. But it’s not fun for the person suffering either. I can completely relate to that feeling of people not liking me or that feeling of people not wanting me to be there. I would literally feel the energy shift when I would walk in to a room. People never talk about the stigma that’s attached to you when you have mental health problems. The guilt you already feel letting people down, the guilt people make you feel, the labels you’re unfairly labelled with! Hard work! Drama queen! Awkward! crazy even. They would sooner you shut up & suffer in silence because it’s a downer to them, or effects there fun, pocket etc. Jesys really lucky she has loving, supportive people around her that genuinely care now. Because it’s rare. People want to be there for the highs, but never the lows.

I only recently discovered Little Mix but I really enjoyed this interview. I do think it’s really interesting that Jesy feels America celebrates being confident. As an American, I feel like we constantly criticize each other for being too confident. It’s such a cultural issue, even here in America.

I would agree that it might be Biritsh thing to be so hard one yourself. I am Persian and you don't see so many negative comments about anyone in my culture. like Liam Payne passe away and he was one of the most successful people of that society. He still received negative comments and he was flawless.

I don’t think being in the group was the problem causing her unhappiness, it was her insecurities. Band or solo she will continue to be compared to other female artists-especially her band mates who also have solo careers. Reading all the negative comments when in little mix could have been solved by doing exactly what she does now- not reading them. I wish her well.

Making her shoot a music video a week after her suicide attempt is disgusting and heartless. Are they even human beings???? I'm really shocked.

That's the music business for you. Actually, a lot of the entertainment business is like that. I read an interview with an actor who said someone collapsed on a movie set. An ambulance was called but filming didn't stop and they even asked the paramedics to work quietly, so they could keep filming. Another one said some of their colleagues regularly got urine infections, because they weren't allowed enough bathroom breaks. It's a pretty abusive industry.

Loved the interview! Although, it makes me wonder who on Little Mix’s team/collaborators made her feel unwelcome in those situations. I just feel like changes should have been made to accommodate her considering she was one of the four bosses.
