Overall, It was Normas fault. At times she was good, like encouraging him to be a normal kid at the start of Season 2, then scenes like this happen you can’t help but feel she really contributed a lot to his condition.

The one "comforting" relationship in her life with her brother was screwed up too. She over compensated with Norman. She tried to give him the affection she never got but she didn't know what was healthy and what was not.

That is something even cultural. She blurred the lines between mother and lover and confused him so much, he had no idea what a healthy relationship between mother and son looked like. She needed things he couldn't give due to her past trauma which she should have dealt with. She created the monster he became. Dylan tried to help him but Norma fought him at every turn.

Parents want affection from their children Because they did not get it from anyone, they become attached to their children, very unhealthy close, controlling, Thus, it negatively affects the child’s independence, emotional etc.. As if the kids see their parents everywhere and the choice they make in their own life. If you feel that you have this type of dysfunctional family, take action and try to be as independent as possible, study or get a job, or a place far away from them. Even if you are at a young age, you can be aware of that
