Something that no one brings up is that you can use telepathy and detect thoughts in conjunction with each other for two way communication.

I now want to play a warlock who gave there patron there voice- maybe a see hag? and they can only communicate telepathically

Eloquence Bard with this feat would be very scary in the right hands. By 6th lvl you could be the enemies god voice to talk them out of fighting, or be the salesman’s intuition that talks them into giving awesome prices to these poor tired travelers. You will be able to communicate with everyone when you want to. Torturing someone for information from inside their mind while they’re in an isolation area would be easy for an eloquence bard. Rolling +20 on intimate, persuade, etc would be nothing. In the right hands 🤷‍♂️

This feat could be a game changer in some campaigns because the mind reading is at will. They couldn't know you were doing it if they wanted to from the way that the spell is put. If you're looking for its use, it's anytime anyone screams "insight check!" or if a NPC could give you more money in a quest. There are tons of things.

Im thinking of doing a soulknife rouge(with either Ranger or Monk multyclass) As an urban bounty hunter with a secret backstory of childhood mind flayer experimentation done on him who uses disguises and detect thoughts in a crowd to find his nervous bounties surface thoughts and tracks them down

@@joshd4119 not sure yet im not going for an optimal build but a role play build i need a subclass that fits for an urban bountyhunter so either the Close Quarters martial arts and Mobility training of the Monk or a Rangers tracking ability I'm not sure which one would fit more with my Urban Bounty Hunter

That Detect Thoughts use is pretty decent. And if you use Comprehend Languages then would it allow you to speak to them in any language with Telepathy? Detect Thoughts lets you pick up thoughts from any creature within 30 feet, whether or not you can see them. That includes Invisible or Hidden enemies. That removes the worst penalty for fighting invisible foes since aiming for where they are means that even with Disadvantage you still have a chance to hit or can cast a save spell or AoE in that direction.

My DM has a very nerfed magic mechanic for the world of our campaign, but it actually makes for some really fun work shopping to make feats and spells fit within the bounds. For telepathy we’ve resigned to like unspoken language where people can know what I’m trying to communicate and I can read them if they are player characters trying to communicate something simple to me. I’m hoping she gives me advantage on insight or perception checks.

I think I am going rock it with my circle of moon druid, that way I can stay in communication with the group. I serious think this will help since my druid has a pretty good head on his shoulders but rarely speaks because he is always in bear form.

The limitation of being one-way communication kinda ruins that though. Like he said, that kind of metagaming is usually allowed. It would be a mean DM to tell you that you simply cant communicate with your party while in a non-human form. Realistic, of course, but not FUN.

I think this is gonna be a nasty combo for my druid. I'll have an 18wis by lvl4. And access to Conjure Animals at lvl5. Being able to issue commands silently opens up a lot of opportunities.

It doesn’t say that it takes a action tbh I am like the back line sniper/healer in the group and 2 ways I can see this being used is if I am in battle and I have to say something without no one hearing or if I want to make someone have disadvantage on a Concentration check or if your Dm is cool let you try to get the person to think it’s them and maybe do something you want them to

This COULD be worth taking if it wasn't a half feat: Have it give you a "+2" in the chosen stat and Voilà, worth taking ;3

I agree. +2 would change the game for it. It WOULD be useful if you were invisible, or hidden in a room with the enemy and needed to communicate with the group, but the distance is kinda short to be really useful. Plus if you knew Draconic, you could talk to a Dragon, which COULD impress it enough to buy you time or possibly more.

Too many better choices for FEATS. This one is a pass. If you like halflings, Ghostwise Halfling gets Telepathy as a racial trait. Same limitations, though.

This is my ongoing question. I'd rule "No" as a DM, but that might be overpowered.

A spellcaster would be tempted to take this, but to choose THIS over Magic Initiate is just silly.
