I had a character in one of my games ask how an enemy ranger's arrow quiver was attached to them. I answered that it is strapped around their waist with a belt, latch and all. She immediately pulls out her Chime of Opening to open the latch, causing the quiver to fall and leave the ranger without any arrows. Brilliant play that left the enemy without their method of doing the most damage.

I guess the DM didn't use spell mechanics like "range". Imagine closing ranks on a guy in combat and you have a "key" in your hand. Or a chime? While he is shooting at you? 😕 Now if the range on that chime is 100 feet.... that makes sense.
@christwubbles9028 ай бұрын

You can strike it as an action, pointing it at an object within 120 feet of you that can be opened, such as a door, lid, or lock. The chime issues a clear tone, and one lock or latch on the object opens unless the sound can't reach the object. If no locks or latches remain, the object itself opens. @redfaux74 RAW and RAI it works.

Bounded accuracy is interesting.. but it's also part of WHY campaigns fall apart shortly after level 8. "Oh, were most bags of hp and we both hit each other every turn?..." It's just damage output vs damage absorbtion in the most boring way every turn. Your twelvelth level fight swings their axe 7 times and does 85 damage. Then the monster hits for 55 damage.. then the fighter does his 7 attacks for 90 damage... And so on until someone chews through the ~200hp on the field.

I realize how old this video is now to make this comment but for those watching after this, the potion of speed does still come with the negative effects of the haste spell. The item says you gain the effects of the haste spell, and the lethargy is one of those effects. It happens regardless of whether concentration is dropped or the duration expires, and the potion doesn't say to ignore any part of it (which some magic items do specify). That said, getting the effect without having to concentrate on the spell is still incredibly strong!

Fun fact: The penalty for lacking proficiency in a shield applies when the shield is "worn" so anyone can use an animated shield. Except for a monk because you lose unarmored defense and movement when a shield is "benefited from" It can also protect a moon druids wild shape or anyone you polymorph since those stop you from using items that are "worn or carried" Anyone currently not using a shield, besides a monk, can use the animated shield quite well. But beware. As it can be targeted by spells directly and destroyed since it is no longer worn or carried
@deffdefying4803 Жыл бұрын
Reading the monk's Unarmored Defense feature on DDB, it makes no special mention about the monk not being able to have shields at all - simply that they must not be *wielding* a shield. I would personally interpret this as holding the shield with intent to use it. With an animated shield, as long as it's animated, you are not holding it - because it explicitly states in its description that it leaps into the air and orbits your space, leaving your hands free. I'd imagine the point of monks not being proficient with shields, and their features being heavily dependent on not wielding shields, is that they need their hands to be free all the time. Their main purpose is to beat the piss out of other creatures with unarmed strikes, after all.

I have always feared a deck of many things breaking an immersive campaign. One twist I've wanted to give it (never tried) is that it is found inert. It activates for one draw when 3 nat 20s are rolled by the party in its presence without any nat 1s in between. Maybe signal this to the party by having all the cards have 3 symbols on the back that light up one by one when a nat 20 is rolled and dissipate if a nat 1 is. Make it a puzzle that also depends on luck. But leave it active (disregarding further nat 1s) until used so they still can have that tactical choice of a hail Mary after solving its activation

A tip for people playing range characters or use range weapons often you should bring an extra set of dice. Use the dice as a physical tracker of ammunition and make a note at the end of session how much you have left. If you have 24 arrows use a d20 and d4. I use the d12 and d10 to track magic arrows.

"You are immune to magic that allows other creatures to determine whether you are lying" would not stop an effect that forces you not to lie. Jeremy Crawford himself stated that they have no effect on each other as well, which is pretty decisive. Obviously it'd be fine if you allow this as a DM, but flat out saying that that is how it works is very misleading.

There's a scene in The Thirteenth Warrior where Antonio Banderas's character, an Arabic intellectual who's stuck traveling with a dozen meatheaded Viking warriors, has been given a broadsword which he can barely lift. After failing miserably to chop a couple wooden stakes with this heavy clumsy thing, while the Vikings make fun of him for being weak like a girl (their words), he goes over to the village smith and asks to use his grinding wheel. Then, having ground down the broadsword and turned it into a scimitar, he's instantly awesome with it, and slices the log perfectly with a single one-handed stroke. The Scimitar of Speed really makes me think of that scene.

Maybe not top 10, but for me personally, my favorite and most game breaking item is Quall's Feather Token Tree. DMs who have played with me for a while now ban me from having it cause I can break almost any encounter with one. Instant 60 foot Oak tree, 30 ft diameter is powerful. A door you can't get through? Place it in a crack, a castle wall you need to climb, climb the tree, an enemy on a bridge, pushes the enemy off (did this to giants over a lava bridge once). A flying creature you can't seem to get, hold an action till it dives, catch it in a tree. There are countless ways to use this relatively cheep magic item to take advantage of a situation. Best magic item ever!

Heavy obscurement doesn't stop magic missile fwiw. At least under RAW, you still need to take the hide action while heavily obscured for an enemy to lose complete sight of you. Otherwise even though heavy obscurement you can still be "seen," just not clearly. Gave my party the Amulet of the Planes. They rarely passed the save at the beginning, so they were thrown throughout the planes from constant spamming of the amulet. Eventually, the Cleric refused to let anyone else use it and had to actively fend off the rest of the party from trying to take it back. It allowed for a lot of fun shenanigans later on in late levels as well.

I should note for 12:47, in some versions of the Forgotten Realms, there are planes that can really mess up a party. I understand your reasoning for putting the Ring of Mind Shielding so low, the variance is too large from table to table. However, from a DMs perspective, the ring should be a top 10 item to give to a party from a lore and role play perspective alone. The shielding properties are great but the part of the item description where it says 'unless it already houses a soul' is where the real power lies. Sure the party can buy a clean ring, but think of what crazy shenanigans a DM can pull with a soul-occupied ring. A person from a pre-calamity race, the last survivor of their kind. A soul of a short-lived race, who's long-lived lover had lost the ring, and thus all hopes of resurrection for their short-lived partner. A prisoner, who made a deal with a guard to circumvent their life sentence. etc etc. Plot hooks, lore from eons passed, or 'backseat adventuring' role play are at your parties fingertips. Well not quite, but third digit is close enough.

something to note about the dwarven thrower, both thiefs and artificers can attune to it even if theyre not dwarves. also, if you roll random loot and get a dwarven thrower but dont have any dwarves, or a dwarf in your party cant use it, then you should consider adding the ability for a dwarf to attune an item to someone for them, it makes the situation not suck for whoever gets the thrower, and adds some cool moments of either a cool tracking quest, or a moment of bonding between two characters.

If the Reference Frame would be total - aside it be fixed to the reference Frame of "The World" staticly - it should get flung away into space or othrwise "move" similarily as the Worlds itself move. So either it is locked to the "normal Worlds outside Reference Frame" or (what I prefer for it really gives the Players space for smartness and creativity) it uses the Reference Frame it is in - like "Inside the Stomach of an Dragon" ir "Inside a Ship". Keep in mind to have this Information at the ready when bringing this Item into the Game - you can even have a Version where the Player on Activation chooses the Frame - if not, it is "Universal" and goes "fwoooosh!"

My DM was rolling loot tables, and my paladin got a Staff of the Magi at level 7. Kinda sat on it a while because i was a new player, didn't think a paladin would use a staff. Then my paladin died, and i rolled up a wizard, and one of my other party members saved it for me. My wizard had god rolled stats, and arguably the strongest item in the game for him. Absolutely love that staff, said wizard still has it and he's level 16 now, basically a bossfight in and of himself. Also wound up getting his hands on a Tome of Clear thought, boosting his Intelligence to 22 which definitely helped.

Re: ammunition, Just give them a +1 quiver of perfect arrows - this quiver magically alters every arrow that enters it giving perfect balance, hardness and weight to always make a perfect shot given the range, draw strength of the bow, and armour type of the target. All arrows pulled from this quiver gain +1 to damage and overcome damage resistances. Requires attunment

Ever Clean Towel and Ever Damp Sponge are two of the greatest items ever! Combine with a bag of devouring and you can get away with a lot of murder hobo. They can also be a bartender’s best friends if you also find Mugs of Ever Full Ale. Keeps your bar clean. Provides you a garbage can you never need to empty. Always have drinks available.

First, the want of magic missles does not require attenement. Significant omissions in my view include: Cube of Force, Wave (the trident), BlackRazor (the sword), Robe of stars, Instruments of the bard,, Amulets of the Devout, Bloodweel vials and their various analogs for wizards and bards, (I'm assuming you don't count any ravnika items based on your comments or I'd add missium apratus and illusionist's bracer),

A combination of Items that I've always thought was under-appreciated is the Ring of Comfort paired with a Ring of Sustenance. *after double-checking they've apparently changed the Ring of Comfort (or we weren't playing it right), I recall it being a ring that made the environment up to 50 degrees more comfortable, i.e. 130 degrees in the desert becomes a sunny 80, and 10 Below in a blizzard becomes a brisk but tolerable 40 degrees. Similar to what is now a Ring of Warmth but it went both ways on the temp scale.

Thank you so much for this if you ever see this comment was struggling to think of items for my adventures

35:20 if I'm not mistaken, it would seem the ring could potentially store five level 1 spells at one time, with each spell taking up one of the five levels of storage the ring has.

The vaporal sword (Sneaker-Snak) the happy cries when a 20 was rolled were insane😂🎉. The player was the only martial and he went from 0 to hero.

The Bag of Beans is very memorable to me because once it gave a member in my party a permanent +7 to their ability scores (spread across multiple stats) thanks to the random event that spawns a nest of steroid eggs. XD

The ring of spell storing hold up to 5 LVL of spells (plural) So the ring can hold any number of spells for which the sum of their level is no greater than 5 so it can hold 5 level 1 spell or 1 LVL 2 and 1 LVL 3 etc.
