In 28 years of shaving, since changing over to bowl lathering with different soaps rather than mug lathering with the same puck brand, I have found that warmed distilled water makes much better lathers for my area. The water is so hard, you can sand wood with it.

I recently wrote a blog post on my recommended newbie razors. The Feather Popular was in fifth place. I have bought a few in my life before I started GSCI. I gave one to my son as his first razor. I used to give them to friends. For about $20 it is a great purchase. Comes with 5 x Feather blades which shave well with the Popular, without the risk of nicks etc. Nice video. Mrs. H really outdid herself! The flowers are gorgeous.

there is a very nice song from an italian composer speaking about the fact that the house where he was born does not exist anymore and everything changed in that neighborhood, the song is called "la maison ou j'ai grandi " " the house where I grew up ", by francoise hardy ( sorry don't have the c with the accent ) but was composed by the Italian adriano celentano and the name of the song was " il ragazzo de la via gluck ", very sentimental song

Hi Paul- Great shave and shave stick review; thank you! A very nice remeniscence about your Dad and his birthplace, thank you. Lovely flowers from Mrs H, as always; thank you! I hope you have a great rest of the week. Take good care and be safe and be well. See you on Sunday for the weekend shave. Best regards, as always, Paul!

Good evening Paul! Mrs. H has done it again; lovely floral arrangement as usual...thank you! Shave sticks: the collection in the den has grown. My favorites are...La Toja, LEA, Palmolive, and Wilkinson Sword...in that order. The wonderful thing about the La Toja is weepers/nicks stop bleeding due to the salt content (I believe) plus in a creamy lather that feels good on the face. I had good luck with most Japanese products. They are 99.9% defect free. Even this inexpensive Feather Popular is precision made. SOTD: 1949 English made Gillette Aristocrat razor loaded with a 1970 made in England Gillette Platinum blade (5th use). Pre-1960 William Mug shaving soap lathered with a Graydog Spalted Maple 26 mm synthetic brush. This time I loaded slightly wetter brush about 25 seconds on the vintage Williams and was rewarded with a mountain on dense, creamy, goodness. Traditional 3 pass shave plus pick-ups. Finished with Thayers's AF SF skin toner and Stirling Executive Man aftershave. BBS results and I smelled good (just like Creed Aventus). My Grandfather was born in 1906 and all his life he kept saying life is getting overly complicated with newfangled devices. He died in 1977 in his field of trees (Nurseryman/tree grower). I think he would have a mental breakdown if he was trusted into today's world. Your products did the job; you have a nice shave! Thank you for sharing. Stay healthy please and take care!

started 8 month ago with classic shaving using a feather popular. Loved it and switched to a rockwell6s, for its weigth. Then i gave away the popular to a friend who had a lot of razor burn with cardridge razors (even with only 1 shave a week). He is also very happy using a DE razor. The burn is a lot less now.

Beautiful flowers and music Mrs H. Great vid, Mr H. I agree about the hard water situation when it comes to lathering certain soaps. I live in Kent and whatever I try, I can't get Mitchell's Wool Fat to lather. I've tried blooming it overnight, boar, horse and synthetic brushes. We live in a hard water area, so I think that's the reason. Still, you can't win 'em all. Please keep up the good work, guys. We all really appreciate the effort that you make.

Great shave today with the SOTD. Global Shave Club ICE 🧊 (Compared to the GSC RAIN 🌧) 💈FINE American Blend Shave Soap. Mr. Sheldon said that the ICE should be same aggression as the RAIN but a little smoother. I did not find that it was any smoother. Maybe a smidgen ruffer, but that could have been the new blade. ** So far i am very happy with the purchase!! I like the weight of handle. Not much different in feel of size from the RAIN. *** RECOMMEND BOTH!!!!

Nice shave Paul💈💈 Nothing to detract from those spectacular flowers presented by Mrs H👍 The soap may work ok but sure looked pale by most standards🤔 I suspect way more soap needs used than usual, you're spot on there😎 This razor seems to be milder than expected, of course it was made for Feather blades too😉 SOTD: PAA Banana Cube, Tallow & Steel "Boreal" soap/splash, WCS synth Infinity brush, Rockwell 6S w/Gillette Swede blade, alum, Thayers and AV 5 in 1 balm...Super👌 Great video again. Stay safe. Enjoy!

SOTD: vintage german 1933s' Apollo razor, Treet Platinum blade (3rd use), Williams mug shaving soap, Wilkinson badger brush and Williams Aqua Velva aftershave. I had a very good shave using the infamous Williams mug shaving soap, but I did a little trick Paul thought us in one of the last videos: I've used a food grater to shred the soap into fine pieces and then let them soak in hot water for about 15 minutes. That way it created a beautiful lather, that lastet long and gave a good slickness and protection... You maybe need a little bit more soap than normaly and make sure the water is hot, then it should work...!

Good shave Paul! My shave will probably be my Karve Christopher Bradley Aluminum with the D plate and a Gillette Nacet, some Ariana and Evans Kaizen Soap and Aftershave, and some Nivea Men's Cooling Lotion to seal it all in. I'll face lather it using my Semogue Owners Club Boar brush, Cherry Wood handle. My meal will be smoked salmon fillets, street corn, Caesar salad, and O'Brien Potatoes. Have a wonderful day and stay safe!!!!

I used my Semogue 830 last night for the first time in a couple of years... had the same results with the lather using a Palmolive stick. I was reminded of why I almost never use that brush. It’s floppy and doesn’t hold/breaks down lather.

I can understand that you are talking about the grave of your father , it is sad that when I go again to visit the grave of my twin brother in belgium I have to hear that the grave does not exist anymore ,unbelievable , thanks God the grave of my parents is still there , since they died not long ago , here in Mexico people have family chapels , such as the family of my wife, and these are for ever , so they will never destroy the chapels , also since chapels has many places under the ground of the chapel to put the death people ( normally at least 20 , my family has 128,) the good thing is that this will be sufficient for many generations , so my grand grand children will keep the chapel in good shape , greetings from Mexico .

No brush I own gives me as poor a lather as my 830. I went to synthetics exclusively after buying it. I did try it this morning after watching this video. Used a TON of soap (PAA Cube Rabid Banana) and got three passes without having to go back to the puck, but the last pass lather certainly wasn't great. If I had used that much soap on any of my synthetics it would have been overwhelming.

Just tried my first shave stick yesterday, the Mühle Sea Buckthorn. Beautiful fresh scent, but it worked exactly like yours, meaning you'd probably need a lot of soap on the face to get a thick lather. Also got in two new razors, Merkur 30C (small but works great) and the 37C Slant which can't wait to try. The new brush is a Mühle Rytmo Synthetic, Resin Black. I also have my eyes on the Mühle R103 (open comb) and a shavette. That way I'll have one of each: closed comb, open comb, slant and shavette. 😀

I picked up my shavette yesterday . Figured I haven’t used it in forever... I only did about 10-15 full face Shaves with it but have only been using it when I have a beard. To shape up my cheeks & neck. It gives crispy lines. I also use it every now and then for my pick-ups to get extra close.... So when it comes to using it... I’m fine on the neck and cheeks...but going against the grain on the chin area and mustache area it’s difficult for me most of the time. And I like to get a BBS or near BBS everytime I Shave and I think that’s a bad idea to do with one of those suckers lol. I’ll keep at it maby you never know. But I do enjoy using it every now and then like I said when I have a beard or with my pick ups.. I got a cut near the corner of my mouth... I WAS MAD AS HELL. Because I was just saying to myself “jeeze, I haven’t even got a weeper in months “ 😅 lol makes me love DE’s that much more!!!! -Rant over ~Mike 🌹 ~

Hello. Always good to see your performance of shaving. I think the video itself shows exactly the quality of soap, razor, brush etc. I love my Semogue1305 boar brush though handle cracked in breaking-in process in one night refrigerator. My recent purchased MWF refill soap performance is like this poor. While I shave my left face, my right side lathers fade away leaving translucent face skin. And following result is razor burn, skin redness. What's your opinion of recent MWF?
