Hadn't wet shaved since my teens and twenties and was using a rotary electric. Before buying I checkout all the videos there were and decided on an WSD2S. While opinions were divided on many videos they were less extreme. I bought a 200 pack of feather blades and have been content. My beard is more on the coarser side and with 2 passes I'm good to go.

*FEATHER RULES!!!* I tried plenty of blades, but I always come back to Feather Blades. Consistent quality through a 100 count sleeve; where others may vary within just the same 5 pack. Cuts my dark coarse whiskers for 5 to 7 shaves per blade. Get over the the fear mongering about slicing your face off and get the best.

I tried Feather blades in my early days of wet shaving. I found them harsh and had frequent nicks. Recently, I tried Feather blades, again. They performed beautifully for me in razors of different types and aggressiveness. I think the change in my experienced performance is down to my greater awareness of how angle and pressure are affecting my shave and my improved ability to control both. It seems to me that Feather blades are more sensitive to these parameters and less forgiving of errors than other blades. Currently, my favorite blades are Perma-Sharp and Nacet, although I am very happy with the shaves provided by Feather blades. Matt does such a great job with his videos and they have been a tremendous educational resource for me!

Feather blades give me the best shave, less irritation around my neck and chin. I have tried Kai, Accuforge, Rex and a few other blades but ALWAYS have the best experience with Feather. Every now n then I pop one of the blades mentioned to re-evaluate but it ends up being a reminder why I like Feather so much. Applies to my 7 razors. Even in the Rex Envoy and Blackland Blackbird OC. Probably explains why I could only get 1-2 shaves out of my Gillette Skin guard blades before going DE this year.

Well Matt the AS-D2 and the blades have been my go to for a very long timenow and I have quite a collection of great DE razors like REX (x2) Merkers, Muhlers, Fatboys, Black Beauties a couple of slants, and more but I always go back to the Feather razor and blade it being quite astonishingly good at giving me a great shave plus I have fairly tough whiskers. Not for the faint hearted I agree but once one gets the hang of using the AS-D2 and the blade one cannot go wrong. Plus I have to say too that engineering and finish quality is beyond compare, and that is saying somethig because I have always had a great liking for American made tools and eqquipment.
@Aaron-cc7yq3 ай бұрын
My 1st and only DE razor has been the the feather AS-D2 with feather blades. I've tried other blades (from your sample packs) and nome of them match the feather. Although I will say, I also have the feather "popular" razor and I really like the butterfly opening and tbh, I kind of like how it shaves better than the AS-D2 because since it is so light you get a lot of feedback and I almost never cut myself. Meanwhile with the AS-D2 I will get a little cut probably once a week on average

Feather is THE BLADE! I use a fresh blade every day. No nicks or cuts and no ingrown whiskers. Take your time. Prepare your beard with skin food and a hot towel, and prepare for a luxurious shave.

I might look at an AS-D2 later on down the line, but I've been off and on with Feather blades for the past year and a half (when I first started DE shaving), and initially I was in the crowd that thought Feathers were very harsh and my technique was okay starting off, but I still cut myself with the blades even though I was careful. However, now that I have a bit better technique and more mild razors (like the Karve Overlander and Razorock Mamba 70), using Feather blades are effortless and they are very, very good. I even used a half-blade in a custom Shield Stomper Single Edge Razor -- which is as close to a straight edge feel, but as a single edge -- and with the lightest pressure I was able to get an immaculate shave, one of the best shaves I've had using a Feather blade. So yeah, the hype on the blades is real if you have the right razor and technique, in my experience.

feathers are still my favorite DE blade. I purchased a feather kamisori artist club about 2 years ago and didn't like it. I recently went back to it and am finally getting the feel of it. There is definitely a learning curve. I am only able to use it with the artist club pro guard blades. The unguarded blades give me weepers and the occasional cut. Obviously, it is my technique not the blade that is the problem. The cost of this razor has increased about 30% in the last year. I like it but don't think it is worth the almost $100 price.

At least children born in the 1960s learn how to shave with the Popular (cheap plastic model) used by their fathers.Or perhaps a disposable razor from Kai. At the time, stainless steel blades were expensive, so steel blades (Type S) were also widely used. I think a distinctive feature of Feather razors is that the cover that holds the blade in place extends almost to the tip. This is probably a difference from German razors. Feather razors blade is fixed near the tip without relying on the springiness of the blade. This may have been because during the poor postwar period, when good metal suitable for razors was not available, the processing technology of the holder compensated for this. After using many different razors, I have settled on the ASD2. Using various blades with the ASD2, I feel that I can clearly understand the characteristics of the blade manufacturer. When evaluating razors, you always use one blade from the same manufacturer. I've heard that you do this too. Doesn't it seem similar to that? Some razors maintain their initial sharpness for a long time, while others are sharp but quickly dull. The quality of a razor cannot be determined by its initial sharpness alone. Perhaps it is because the ASD2 has such precise performance that you can experience this for yourself. Do not afraid enjoy your first shaving experience with Feather. I'm Japanese, but I'm not the sales manager at Feather. Of course, I know the good points of Shark blades. I think it's fun to get your hands on a variety of blades and try shaving with them. Thank you for reading my poor English.

These questions may sound silly but, #1 why would anyone want to shave with a DE razor blade that 'wasn't' the sharpest blade made? Question #2. I think the Feather shavettes are the best designed shavettes on the market, Which is why its a shame that they only take their proprietary blades rather than the standard halved DE blades. This really limits the variety of blades you can use with this shavette. Also some people like myself don't get a good shave from those proprietary blades either which limits the number of people that can use this shavette as well

I don’t like feather blades. There I said it. I don’t have as many razors as I know some have. I only have 4 but every time I try a feather it leaves my skin screaming for moisturizer. Doesn’t matter how gentle I am with the pressure it’s always the same. Much prefer a Gillette London bridge or an Astra blue blade.

Same here. The feather DE transforms when in their ASD2 though (a notoriously mild razor). Gillette Nacets or Personna Platinums for me. Feather SE blades though are fantastic! Lasts so long. FWIW: I've never found the Feather's extra sharpness to be worth the extra price. E.g., compare a Feather to a Personna Lab. The Feather starts out super sharp and dulls fairly directly, whereas the Lab starts out mediocrely sharp, but quickly gets much sharper and then dulls slowly over many more uses than one can get from a Feather. It's just not worth it.
@katsuatwork3 ай бұрын
I sometimes feel the same way. There are some holders that shave better with metal blades that are tougher (more rigid) than feather blades. I often feel that way with German razor holders.
@robertross85653 ай бұрын
There is no doubt the Feather DE blade is the sharpest blade in town. That’s doesn’t mean it’s the best for everyone. I find it leaves my neck feeling a bit raw. I prefer Russian made blades like the Gillette Platinum or the Wizamet Super Iridium. I would rather have a less sharp blade that is smoother. That said, I can see why shaver’s either love them or hate them.
