Thanks guys for sharing this video, it's so great! I was born and raised in Miskolc and left 17 years ago for a better life... Maybe the city looks great these days but the life isn't that easy there! Many people work for $100/week if they have job at all! I also have a son (11) (and 2 daughters) who was born in the USA and never been in Hungary yet! He might do the same thing once he'll be old enough... He's speaking Hungarian luckily though!

my father was born in the region, further west closer to the Slovak border, I know that I have many unknown relatives throughout the region and have googled the small town Galvacz where Dad was born, and saw a guy there who looks a lot like one of my sons.

This is a fantastic video, guys! I watched it with so much pleasure! Very emotional and touching. It's great to be able to find out who your ancestors were and where are your roots. I've got also some foreign roots in my family, hope I can also find out more about them!

Hi Wes and Fel. I really enjoyed this video. I am really into doing my family tree. Both my parents are from Hungary, my dad is from Budapest and my mom was from Debrecen. The video really made us want to go to Miskolc and try the cave and see the other sights. Both my parents left Hungary for Canada in 1956 and1957 respectively. They settled in Montreal.

I just came across your great vblog and found it very interesting. It is a pitty you've already left Poland, as if I had seen your videos a month earlier, I would have invited you to my place, and show you around. I was born in Wroclaw - where you've been - and lived there for a couple of years, but now I live in Nowy Sącz, which is in a southern part of Poland, about a hundred kilometres south from Krakow, close to some wonderful places, with mountains, forests, skiing resorts, biking routes etc. You definitely should come here and spend a month or so, trying some hillwalking, cross-country skiing or horse riding or even hunting. Let me know in some advance when you visit Poland again I'll try to show you as much as possible.

Feather and the Wind, as a follow-up....my trip was amazing! I stayed in the city because I was traveling alone and my Hungarian (Magyar) is very bad. But I was able to find they tiny town my ancestors lived. Banszallas is only about an hour from Miskolc. My next trip I will definitely visit it. Thank you both for all your videos! Do you have another trip to Hungary planned?

Hey Guys. Great videos. Good to see my hometown. Grew up in Miskolc, moved to California 16 years ago, feeling homesick watching your video. Have you guys been there in the summer? It's so different when the weather is nice.

Thanks so much! We spent a day in the area in May this year and it was so nice to see Miskolc on a warm and sunny day. Hope we'll get to spend more time in Hungary next summer 🤞

How interesting. I was there in May this year as well. I took my 6 year old son to grandma"s house in Diosgyor. It was so green. Like a jungle. Did you guys go to the Castle of Diosgyor by any chance? We went there 3 times while we were there. It was a lot of fun.

How others see this region, I cannot understand: to me, this little country is menaced motherland engulfed by flames, the world of my childhood swaying far, and I am grown from this land as tender branches are from trees. And may my body sink into this soil in the end. When plants reach out towards me, I greet them as a friend and know their names and flowers. I am at home here, knowing the people on the road and why and where they are going - and how I know the meaning when, by a summer lane, the sunset paints the walls with a liquid flame of pain! The pilot cannot help seeing a war map from the sky, he can’t tell below the home of Vörösmarty Mihály;* what can he identify there? grim barracks and factories, but I see steeples, oxen, farms, grasshoppers and bees; his lens spies out the vital production plants, the fields, but I can see the worker, afraid below, who shields his labour, a singing orchard, a vineyard and a wood, among the graves a granny mourning her widowhood; and what may seem a plant or a rail line that must be wrecked is just a signal-house with the keeper standing erect and waving his red flag, lots of children around the guard; and a shepherd dog might roll in the dust in a factory yard; and there’s the park with the footprints of past loves and the flavour of childhood kisses - the honey, the cranberry I still savour, and on my way to school, by the kerbside, to postpone a spot-test one certain morning, I stepped upon a stone: look! There’s the stone whose magic the pilot cannot see for no instrument would merge it in his topography. True, guilty are we all here, our people as the rest, we know our faults, we know how and when we have transgressed, but there are blameless lives too of toil and poetry and passion, and infants also, with infinite capacity for compassion - they will protect its glow while in gloomy shelters until once more our land is marked out by the finger of peace, then they will respond to our muffled words with new voices fresh and bright. Spread your vast wings above us, protective cloud of night. (Miklós Radnóti)
