Man I've watch a lot of Mastering videos and never has their been an explanation as great and more detailed as this one! I smiled with my eyes glued with amazement as to how great the steps were, what to do , what not to do in mastering! what needs to be done to correct issues either from the mix in the song or how to correct them in mastering without using any other plugins outside of cubase! Thank you for the training course! I appreciate all the hard work you and your crue have done!!!

Can you use a stereo bus as an alternative on export to cue everything at once? 1 w UV22 and 1 without?
@Featherlightstudio Жыл бұрын
Cubase will let you create any number of Busses and submixes you want and then, using the Export Audio Panel, select any combination of those outputs as individual export jobs.

Thanks for this. With regard to LUFS what if you’re recording quiet music, such as a piece of soft quiet classical music?
@Featherlightstudio10 ай бұрын
Most streaming services, like Apple Music's 'Sound Check', have some kind of auto leveling feature now. Some allow you to defeat this and some dont. Best practice is to master your music with the best balance of master level versus dynamic range and let the streaming services fight it out since they are all constantly changing.

Great video. I have a question: after the maximizer you put the Magneto II in the signal chain… So, if you raise the Maximizer output level, then it will overdrive the Magneto II Input?
@Featherlightstudio9 ай бұрын
This is a much bigger topic than a comments reply, but in a nutshell... the output knob on the Maximizer assumes that your mix is enough in the ballpark that the 'Optimize' control can create the volume boost required to achieve 'Mastered' levels. The Maximizer effect itself is also a limiter and restricts the output level so, in a mastering scenario, this output control would rarely be used. As such, the tape effect is just for color and sees no additional gain. However, the Maximizer can be used on all sorts of other things for effect, hence the output knob. Typically, by the time you get to the Mastering Stage, it is assumed that your project gain staging has already been optimized.

Would you not want to change the dither back to 24bit for the high res bounce?
@Featherlightstudio2 жыл бұрын
technically yes, but this gets into more delivery mediums like mixed media CD's and Dual Rate DVD pressing than I had time to go into in this one video. Good catch though!
@whistlemusic85722 жыл бұрын
@@Featherlightstudio absolutely love the video , only a positive note of criticism 🍻 thanks again , so it’s better to use the VST algorithm to dither then to adjust it in the bounce menu. I’ve always scratched my head with the dithering plugins and opt to do it in the bounce menu , but I’m excited to try these extended algorithms! Latency video was great , nice to learn more about the technical stuff opposed to the more artistic aspects of engineering. Thanks again for the reply !

This is great! Can or do you recommend Squasher as a good choice for the multiband cmpressor for mastering?
@Featherlightstudio2 жыл бұрын
Squasher is certainly capable of the task but, for mastering, Steinberg;s traditional 4 band Multi band comp is a more precise tool for the mastering workflow. Squasher is better suited for specific sounds or channels because of the upward compressor design. Kind of a scalpel vs a hammer comparison.

Hi Steve, hope u are doing well! totally awesome video!!! Question: I was provided 10 audio wav stems, they sound great in cubase 10.5 when i play back with mastering applied, but when I export to wav, the mastered wav file sounds muddy. Dont have this problem when I master up to 40 tracks of vocals, cubase halion, various cubase vsts and latest groove agent. Steve could you please suggest a solution? thanks! ✌️
@Featherlightstudio Жыл бұрын
There's a lot of factors here but the short of it is.. Exporting multiple stems out of Cubase is dependent on what the 'Effects' setting path in the Export Window is set to. You can choose to export Dry, or with various combinations of sends and busses included in the export.
@aceamadeus Жыл бұрын
@@Featherlightstudio Steve, thanks a ton for the fast reply. I probably didn't explain right in my previous post, I have mixed 10 audio stems and it sounds great in cubase, then when i master using the native plugins from cubase like u show on your tutorial it also sounds good. But when I export to a single wave file, it sounds muddy. I am using cubase 10.5, i will look for the effects setting path, and let you know how it goes. thanks again✌️

I am recording a single mono line...and I use the bus channel. Are the filters that I add in the bus channel mono or stereo?
@Featherlightstudio Жыл бұрын
Buss channel ? Cubase can create instrument (stereo), audio (mono or stereo), group/buss (mono or stereo), MIDI ( data only), and Aux/FX ( mono or stereo) tracks. The Audio tracks can be mono but feed into a stereo Buss or Aux channel. That would take a Mono source and allow stereo effects like delay and reverb to process it. So it depends on the filter you are adding but everything on a stereo Buss will be stereo.
