Cocoy's Pares is one of my favorite comfort foods. Especially during payday and when eating alone 😊 Cocoy hack: Ask for extra garlic bits, chili, and calamansi to go with your beef pares. Their Siomai is also worth trying 😊

Cocoy's is amazing, but do try the retiro one in La Loma. The owner there was the cook for Jonas during the 80's then left to open his own restaurant which is now known as The Famous Original Pares Mami House in Amoranto Street.

Pares was invented by jonas restaurant along retiro st contrary to what people are saying. Pares means combination of beef stew and simple fried rice. The beef stew is based on the cantonese braised beef. Local beef stew just limited the number of herbs and spices to just 1 or 2. The original fried rice of pares has 3 ingredients eggs, garlic and chinese chorizo in it. Current fried rice only has eggs, some dont anymore just fried garlic bits.

I wish brands didn't have to force their collaborators into saying cringey things like piñaka masarap. It's so outside of the Featr brand that I assume is taking the very laudable direction of documenting filipino culture thru food intelligently and with utmost respect.
